you are one of the best at making both conceptual& surreal manips - you are actually as good as Renee Magritte - keep up the good work on these great pieces which are beyond perfect - they are so solid when it comes to composition & color - I want more

aww...thanks so much!!! I'm really glad that you think so!! Magritte was one of my favourite artists when i was growing up (along with Salvador Dali ) so thank you very kindly for the huge compliment!!

you are more than welcome - I some times title my art using titles for songs - I have a video under Delicious Surprise which shows a ton of Magritte's work - just click on the link & enlarge the video - yo will love seeing all of his art - both Magritte & Dali were superb surrealists - have you seen any art made by artists who worked in a shcool or genre which was called dada??? I think you like their art also - they started the genre surrealism in a way - Marcel DuChamp & Man Ray - they are very famous - the Philadelphia Musem of Art has the largest collection in the world of Marcel DuChamp's art - both of these people are in Art Histoy Books - you may want to look them up

oh cool! i will have a look! yes, i am very familiar with the dadaists....and do enjoy some of their work..but it's surrealism that i have been in love with ever since i was a child! ..i took quite a few years of art history at university, and was lucky to have a really fantastic professor (who was also an egyptologist! and i love egyptology)

You all did wonderful work with this chronicle; great choice of themes.

Btw, I just noticed that you've become an administrator over at Neo, congrats and best of luck.

thanks Gosia! Yes, Deyan and I have taken over, so that Justin can step down and just focus on his art....we are still in the process of learning everything, but hopefully we'll be able to run it all ourselves shortly so that Justin doesn't have to worry about it anymore!

aww Tracy, this is so cool. This creates a double image. The shadow that you put on the fishbone is really great. very simple yet very mystical. let me try some of that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vcrimson In reply to angelandluci [2008-05-05 19:57:50 +0000 UTC]

lol...i can't take credit for the fishbone's shadow..normally i draw all my own shadows, but this lucky fellow already had one! and he was on sand too, so it wasn't too hard to integrate into my sandy background! (but i did paint the reflection of the chair myself..and the little marks in the water where the legs break the surface!) anyways, thanks! i'm glad you liked it!

tabascoterrier [2008-05-05 00:58:59 +0000 UTC]

Ah, VC! Good to see you didn't stay away too long

The concept and composition are, as always, excellent... although I must confess to being somewhat bothered by the shadows in this one - the shadow of the chair suggests light coming from the left, but the shadow of the fish suggests light coming from the right, and this inconsistency makes me feel that both elements are rather disconnected from each other.

But it is late, so perhaps I'm being over critical of what is otherwise a great piece of work

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vcrimson In reply to tabascoterrier [2008-05-05 06:48:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks TT.....i rather thought that the light was coming from the front on both accounts....but i could be wrong! perhaps had I actually given the chair a shadow, it might not look so disconnected.....but i was unsure of doing a shadow on water and only did the reflection instead..
