Description Sol de Mayo - Inti - Sun of May - Argentina - Bandera

::: En Español

Sun of May

The Sun of May (Spanish: Sol de Mayo) is a national emblem of Argentina and Uruguay, and appears on both countries' flags.

The sun, called the Sun of May, is a replica of an engraving on the first Argentine coin, approved in 1813 by the Constituent Assembly, whose value was eight escudos (one Spanish dollar).

The specification "of May" is a reference to the May Revolution which took place in the week from 18 to 25 May 1810, which marked the beginning of the independence from the Spanish Empire for the countries that were part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata by then. There is a legend that as the new government was proclaimed, the sun broke through the clouds, which was seen as a good omen.

Diego Abad de Santillán claimed that the Sun of May was a representation of the Inca sun god Inti.

Inti (incan legends)

Inti and his sister, Mama Quilla, the Moon goddess, were generally considered benevolent deities. Mama Quilla supposedly gave birth to the Earth. Their court is served by the Rainbow, the Pleiades, Venus, and others. The founding Inca ancestor, known as Manco Cápac, was thought to have been the son of Inti. According to an ancient myth, Inti taught his son Manco Cápac and his daughter Mama Ocllo the arts of civilization and they were sent to earth to pass this knowledge to mankind. Another legend, however, states Manco Cápac was the son of Viracocha.

Inti ordered his children to build the Inca capital where a divine golden wedge they carried with them would penetrate the earth. Incas believed that this happened in the city of Cuzco. The Inca ruler was considered to be the living representative of Inti. Pachacuti is often linked to the origin and expansion of the Inca Sun Cult.

The Willaq Umu was the high priest of the Sun (Inti). His position placed him as the second most powerful person in the kingdom. He was directly underneath the Sapa Inca, and they were often brothers. The emperor and his family were believed to be descended from Inti.

I used the colors and the choice of the form it has in the Argentine flag en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_of_M…

My contribution is a minimum change in the design of the face to give movement and contrast with rays
