Description So I had this weird idea...

-------------------------------

Average kid Casey Jones, stern over-achiever April O'Neil, shy geek Irma (No last name given) and egotistical (accident prone) young genius Baxter ("Bax") Stockman all go to the same Jr. High school (and are now around the same age, just roll with it ) and happen to get picked as a team for a biology project about turtles. Casey unilaterally decides to add some 'life' to their presentation and impulsively decides to go and buy four turtles from the pet-store only to drop their case when he has to push an old man out of the path of a TCRI truck. The turtles fall down the sewer along with a canister of ooze from the truck, and to add insult to injury the old man runs off without so much as a 'thank-you'.Β

Maybe another kid would've just written the turtles off as lost but not Casey Jones! He finds a way down into the sewer and locates the turtles (coated in the strange ooze) and manages to coax all but one of them into a shoe-box (the last one had it's attention caught by a mysterious, hooded shadow that Casey doesn't spot, so he has to pick it up by hand) before rushing to meet the others at Bax's house. Awe-struck by Bax's amazing home lab Casey leaves the turtles unattended and the other three end up getting handled by the rest of the kids (who are understandably grossed out when he explains the reason for their odd smell). Nonetheless in a short time they find themselves oddly attached to their new friends and, after naming them (and WASHING them), each take one home.

Each of the kids puts their turtle away and goes to sleep, after which the same mysterious shadow from to sewer visits sneaks into their homes (with NINJA-like skill) and steals their turtles!

Later that same night they each wake up nauseous and in a cold sweat. They rush to their restrooms to find - much to their shock - they're now giant, talking turtles! Bax calls them all to come to his lab and they each sneak out and make the trip. As they all try to figure out what happened the blame inevitably falls to Casey's turtles - which in their panic and shock NONE of them thought to bring (or notice was missing) - but just as they're about to go back for them a mysterious, hooded figure (same from the sewer) steps out from a dark corner with the four turtles in his furry, rat-like hands.

"My humblest apologies," he says "I feared the turtles had be infected by the mutagen so I tried to secure them as soon a possible, but I underestimated how little exposure it would take to...I am so very sorry."

"Who are you?!" shouts April,
"What are you?" adds Baxter.

The figure sets the turtles down on a table, as he does his hands start to change from a rat's to a man's.

"My name is Hamato Yoshi, and what I am..." he takes of his hood, revealing himself to be the same man Casey rescued earlier that day,
"...is much like YOU."

---------------------------

...I told you it was weird, don't give me that look.

Like the man said TMNT is built for reinvention (go on YouTube should go see all the different shorts that have been made of it, they're AWESOME) and this is mine, I don't want this box to get any bigger so if you have questions feel free to ask and I'll answer what I can (it's just the germ of an idea right now; most of this I didn't even have thought out until AS I was typing this description). I'll be putting this in my "ideas" folder like usual and maybe I'll add to/tweak it here and there down the line, but feel free to share your thoughts on the pitch so far.

I've only written a fiction once before, it came out...okay, I guess, but I'm more of a visual artist - and I think this story's more suited to pictures, anyway.

The most honest answer is probably that that's just how the roles 'shook out' when I was conceiving the premise, but also (in this interpretation) I like to think of the turtle personas as reflecting an aspect of the kids that they might otherwise hide or repress.

I know there probably needs to be a lot more character explanation from my end to justify that - and I do hope to get that done at some point - but I'm working on other things right now, and a lot of the stuff in my "Ideas" folder are just some very loose concepts that roll through my head now and then that I didn't really plan on turning into entire projects (OR just lack the time/talent to do so).

Vederick In reply to chann1 [2019-09-20 13:11:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes - but needless-to-say that raises a host of logistical problems with regards to how/where they keep their weapons and armor.

...or maybe not; after all, if Spider-Man can just keep a suit around in his backpack or whatever in case of emergencies and then just
quick-change into it thenΒ IΒ don't see why my guys can't. In fact, those same "logistical problems" could be used as an occasional source
of comedy/drama.

In any case, when it isn't being used for a joke/source to drama, the change of clothes can just be assumed (again, like Spider-Man: we don't see
him putting on his suit every time; he just excusesΒ himself from what he's doing and the scene jumps to him swinging in and saving the day).

Sticking with the "Marvel" analogies, the physical transformation doesn't have to be particularly time-consuming either, if you consider the Hulk.

(Before reading the description) Huh, I thought those were the Burger King Kids Club kids (boy in purple background as Jaws, boy in blue background as Lingo.) The middle girl next to the black boy looks kind of like I.Q. but that's a girl, I.Q.'s a boy. She also may have reminded me of Snap, who is blond and doesn't wear glasses, (she also kind of reminds me of Velma Dinkley from "Scooby Doo.") I don't think I had a thought about the red-headed girl, although she could remind one of Boomer. She also looks sort of like Daphne Blake, also from Scooby Doo.

This is certainly interesting. No more weird than the idea of "TMNT in reverse" that's common on the net (the shorthand is that the "Turtles" and Splinter are humans in a world of anthro animals and are treated pretty much the same way as they would be as anthro turtles in our world).

......Um... Ok then... At first it seemed like a rather interesting prequel in the vein of Gotham High, then as I kept reading, it turned into a weird reboot... don't get me wrong though, it is interesting...

Personally, I think I'd dig it more if it actually was a prequel where the PEOPLE don't turn into turtles, but you see the turtles gradually becoming more sentient. But hey, that's just my two cents.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vederick In reply to A-Dawg13 [2018-01-07 22:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh, no - I can most certainly appreciate that viewpoint; this thing is riding on a tightrope of "interesting" with a veritable ABYSS of 'cringe-worthy' waiting underneath.

Along with just genuinely liking the idea myself (m'weird) one goal I had was to find a way to have the human characters be more integral and useful to the plot (whereas typically they seem to me to be unnecessary or intrusive, like the humans in many a "Transformers" series ) without having them steal the spotlight from the Turtles. In fact: what you suggested is actually in line with the previous interpretation I had envisioned; the Turtles were still themselves and the kids just used their DNA connection with them to turn the Turtles from pets into to ninjas (the Turtles had human level intellect in either form but communicated psychically when they were pets).

...it felt a lot more cliche (in a good way, if that makes any sense) but that seemed like it took too much away from the Turtles and didn't change enough overall to merit its own existence; it'd basically just be TMNT - again - but with MORE humans getting in the way of the ninja stuff than EVER BEFORE! YAY!

I committed to the kids BEING the turtles since it would make the Turtles truly 'new' people. Baxter Stockman is NOT Donatello, but now he IS "Donatello"; TMNT becomes a mantle - or a "mask", if you will (*dies of smug*) - that can be inherited, or rather EARNED, and must be lived up to once it's taken - kinda like Batman. [Example:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijgRyN… ]

NOW everything finally felt like it was really "new" and so I was interested in seeing where this could go. But from start to finish I KNEW it could leave a very funky taste in the mouth of anyone who wasn't looking from just the right angle, and that's on me - not you. Β

But hey, as long as the idea isn't so offensive that it literally fills your soul with a chalky bile of murderous intentΒ I'll count that as a 'win'!

That's the only surname that turned up for me, too, but the forum I saw it on (several people had the same difficulty around it that i HAD) also included a quote from someone who worked on the series (who was asked the same question) who said that she was never given one because she never needed one.

Plus, I couldn't find any sources (comic or cartoon) where that "Langistein" name was used. I have no problem with the name but I didn't want to use it without better confirmation, do you have a link to a source?

Even though it's been pretty common knowledge, now that you mention, I see that even her page on TMNT's Wiki doesn't give her last name . . . now it's got me wondering just where did Langinstein come from. Weird.

Exactly, I couldn't find a source for it and if (cause I cant be 100%) the source I did find on that forum was accurate she didn't have one. That wouldn't surprise me, though; lot's of characters "don't need" last names so they don't have one. Arnold ("Hey Arnold") only got one as a punchline.
