So there is a bit of fate thrown in here. The kind caused by being in the right place at the right time (how they became allies of the Cybersquad) and being from the right place (self-explanatory). Excellent; I've always loved stories that grapple with fate vs. free will and whether or not those things can coexist. I'm of the opinion they can; it's just that the being (or beings; I frequently use the idea of a Great Creator having a pantheon of patrons guardianship over a world or set of worlds in my writing, with the patrons all having overlapping areas of overseeing since only the Great Creator can have solo control over anything and everything; I can site both C.S. Lewis and Anne B. Walsh for that) in charge of fate operates completely out of our frame of reference that it's indescribable. The comparison I've seen that lays it out most simply is we're the characters in the book and the one in charge of fate is the author; within the world of the book, everyone is operating on free will but the author is ultimately in control. That said, I'm well-aware of the characters saying "I want X.", not taking no for an answer and altering the story; recently had 2 characters in a fanfic in the planning stages (so many of those...fics in the planning stages I mean not fics where the characters try to run away with things) passively-aggressively convince me they should date instead of remaining simple friends like I had planned.

Hmm, I'm not sure where you see "fate" going on. I was going more for straight conspiracy.

A conspiracy? I see no ravens here!

Well, as is discussed, there's got to be SOMETHING behind why the best replacements for the Cybersquad all have firsthand experience with the power of three of the objects involved in the conspiracy; they're not necessarily mutual exclusive concepts. But either way, can't wait to see what's next.

Well, it's probably hard to set up dates when your boss constantly needs you at his beck and call so he can dominate cyberspace.

...Good thing he's got a new career, now.
