Description This is a strange ship indeed. When I was playing Galactic Civilizations 2 I had created a ship I liked so much that I just had to model it in 3ds Max.

The Devastator Warship is a destroyer class vessel with a max speed of 18 parsecs per week and is armed with powerful plasma and photon weaponry ranging from the lethal plasma cannons and photon torpedoes. It is also equipped with lethal mass driver based weaponry and legendary organic armor. This ship lead the crusade against all that opposed the empire. However late in the war losses were rising and the ship had to be thoroughly upgraded. Until the upgrades were completed, the empire's Kitsune class battleships took the lead and wiped out all competition in its wake.

amazing, i made somthing alot like that, but it had all the best weps and def. though in that game there is one thing that annoys me, pirates, they seem infinatly powerful, and they just keep getting better, and you can never catch up.

I haven't played in forever so I am unsure of how tough pirates get. But yes, in my games my ships often outclass foes slightly as I put more effort into research or play opossum. I give into their threats and demands early on so I can divert all funds to research and development. And when I am ready I strike with weapons that either matches or outclasses my foes AND I possess armor that resists their guns. This means I win.

pirates, by the time they get to the fifth time they come up as an issue, get to the area of about 250 or so logistics points, 151 starting HP for a dreadnaught, and each one has probably hull space of about four hundred or so. If im doing somthing wrong, please help me out, because when im done researching all the techs, the best i can get with logistics is 59 and hull space of about 180. and i can never make those discoveries like organic armor and stuff like that. again, tell me if im doing somthing wrong.

Nice ship. And I see you play GalvCiv2, too. Great game. Just waiting for that Arnor expansion to come out. >_> According to Stardock's shop it'll be available this month.

I love making ships with that thing; I've been able to in early games turn cargo hulls into functional warships that looked cool. Fragile once the defense was breached, but cool. Then there's my Death Stars that looked...yeah, like Death Stars and shot beam weapons from the dish. Memory-intensive and hella expensive to build, maintain, and upgrade, but SOOO bloody powerful once finished; pirates even with shields were AFRAID of them.

I never really get TOO far into the game to outfit my ships with boatloads of weapons. Last time I played the Korath Clan faction put every egg into the research basket to research ONLY weapons. Wheres my research was balanced in all aspects, they out gunned me despite my balanced stats. I mean... I only had lasers and they had phaser weapons. A huge gap in technology. It was scary man.

My best time playing was one of extreme luck. I was pushed against the wall and then I hit a random discovery: A Ranger Class ship was discovered! With that massive juggernaut I broke the blockades and made way towards the enemy's homeworld. Thing is at this time everyone had only frigates, having a Ranger is a big step up over everyone else! Thanks to the Rangers the Koraths and Grengins were defeated utterly. But it gets better! My empire KEPT FINDING MORE of these ships! Before I knew it I had the:

Lucky Ranger
Lucky Silray
Lucky Cat
Lucky Taser

ect lol. In the end I had 8 ranger class vessels discovered! However by then I already discovered warp drives and other useful stuff. My new Spirit Fox class of battleships were 8x faster and several times deadlier with a complete balanced array of weapons. My Devastator Warships also outclassed the rangers in the end through sheer speed and force and numbers. So basically, the lucky rangers were relegated to planetary defense duties Awesome game. I would replay it any day if I had time.

Heh, nice.

But yeah, balance is good; my ships had balanced defenses when I didn't know what to expect, but when I see a trend in enemy ship armaments I build a ship that can take that class down no prob. >>-b Specialty ships don't work well overall, but when you sick them on what they're made to fight, they own. ^_^

Doesn't usually work if the enemy ship's guns are several times better than your best armor

I just played again. Dang it I can never get good at this... The Yor, Krux, and some other guy are all up my throat. The Thorians were a big help though. Donated a battleship and 4 frigates to help me. The problem with this map was never my fault. My home planet was on the bottom right corner of the map... all alone save for a second planet. That means my colony ships had to travel over a dozen turns just to reach the next planet. That is BAD, really really bad. To make matters worse the enemies surpassed me again in weapons. I was facing mass driver values of over 80 vs my 4. Insane or what?

Holy crap ouch. O_O What difficulty are you playing in?

Normal difficulty.... I know I am not THAT good of a player but even I know it when things get out of hand. It's situations like these that make it hard for me to play these kind of games. After a while, a great deal of research projects take mere 2-5 turns to complete so I begin researching them since they can be done so fast. Also I had only reached Frigate class vessels... the enemy had battleships already T_T. At the very least I found ANOTHER Lucky Ranger vessel. It was the ONLY vessel I had that even stood a chance... even more a chance actually, it beat the crap out of anyone who attacked it. But it was an unbearably slow vessel. My Stinger class frigates were 3x faster with their twin Impulse Mark III engines. Eventually my Stingers were outfitted with twin Railguns Mark IV, Duranthium Armor, and ECM III. This game isn't hard on lower difficulties, but I must get used to normal.

Just as a reminder this random map SEVERELY handicapped me since I was stuck in a corner with only 2 planets with the nearest other planets being 15 turns away. The AI were not handicapped like that.

Good news at last. I am playing again, lower difficulty, and finally doing good for a change. This time I wasn't so handicapped in an obscure corner of the galaxy and actually managed to take some good planets. Before long the Yor declared war on me. I analyzed their ships and found that they are maximizing missiles over anything else. They didn't even have armor. So I rushed to achieve the Telepath Defenses and outfitted my ships with several of them. In the end the Yor couldn't even scratch my ships because they relied on missiles.

Before long my Devastator Destroyers (remade, I never saved the first version) entered the fray and were pretty much invincible. And with every Yor planet conquered I get new tech. Including Photon Torpedoes. Near the end of the war, I was building a Dreadnought class vessel: The Liska class. Named after a crazy vixen from a web comic. The Liska class are really strange ships. They are wider than they are long, I'll upload it if I can find out how to save pics.
