Thank you very much for you kind words, it means a lot to me! n_n
Best place to start is always planning. Get a good idea of what you want to do first, that way you can have a plan and avoid major mishaps. That being said, some of my best work has been the result of last minute decisions, so don't be afraid to change you mind along the way!
Once you have a rough idea of what you want, take your gun apart. Most parts are screwed on in some fashion, so you should be able to get the entire thing disassembled without breaking anything. If you intend to make it functional, take pictures of the firing mechanism before you take it apart. Then put all your screws and other internal pieces into a bag for safe-keeping. After that, make any cuts you need, sand the whole thing thoroughly, and begin painting! I'd be happy to help in any way I can, just Note me if you'd like to discuss. n_n

You're welcome. And thank you so much for the advice. I pulled apart my Recon last night just to see if I could, and managed to put it back together properly. I have an absolute crapload of ideas for my NERF stuff, I've got the Stampede which I wanna paint like the Revenant in Mass Effect 2 and 3.

It was my pleasure! And congrats on your progress so far! The only thing you have to be worried about with the Stampede is the fact that, not only will it just generally be more complicated, but there's probably also some electronics in there as well. You need to be absolutely certain that you can reassemble it properly. I must say though; a Revenant prop would be AWESOME.

Yeah, it would be. I've seen some other Revenant NERF's and they look incredible!
