Description This should be my final posting of "droid head". I'm getting sick of looking at this thing, besides the fact that I have other pieces I need to post; new and old (reformatted.) My thought with this picture was that a scene like this or similar may be common in 10 to 20 years. From everything to pets and vaccum cleaners, to wall street broker programs and military drones, Robots and artificial intelligence is making more and more in the way of inroads everyday. Now the droid itself doesn't function (just an assemblage), but the idea of taking your house bot in to get a tune up may not be all that far fetched. Then again, with our disposablity trend we have been running for at least 30 years, who knows.

This shot seemed to be the best I took for composition, angle, etc. I set it up in photoshop, played with some filters, etc. I know it doesn't compare to the photo manips you see all over the place on this site, but I'm still figuring out what works and what doesn't. Both software and camera-wise.

comments and crtiques are welcome. Lemme' know what could be better.

Is that a CO2 canister ?
That's brilliant.
There should be some tiny hydraulic rams somewhere, like maybe the jaw,one on either side...
Overall concept really good.
Something like a smoky atmosphere with a lit cigarette in a nearby ashtray would give it that personal touch. As if it's break time and the shot marks an interval in the process...
The composition is good, just needs a little tweaking in photoshop. But it's true ,there's not really anything on DA like this that I'm aware of...
Be complimented for that...
Originality...

1st, thanx for the compliment. Much obliged. Seriously. I mean, if you like something I'm doing, to me it Means I'm developing in the right direction. 2nd, you are a bloody genius! I hadn't even thought of the whole "smoky cigarette" Idea. God, I'm an imbecille! that would've made it that much better. as for the jaw hydraulics, good call. If I can stumble across some pistons from a car trunk or some such I'll throw them on. Technically I am done witht this project, but let's face it; what is "finished" defined as with these? I'm starting to see potentials with droid head as a photo manip part in all sorts of ideas though, so you'll probably see him in other incarnations. Thanx for the suggestions. Wish I had thought of them myself. I'll use them somewhere down the line though, thats for sure. Stay tuned for more madness.

Thanx for that link. When i do finally ahve some access to space and some heavy duty equipment (english wheel and the like) I would love to do some of that. That is some beautiful work he is putting out there.

I'll bet he's doing most of his shaping by hammering rather than the English wheel.
By the way Harbor Freight has not only an English wheel for sale now ,but also a pneumatic shaping hammer for thin sheet metal...

Ahhhh, you are making me dream (In walks reality, grabs jester by the throat and slaps the stoopid outta him) -oh yeah, money and space -not enough of either at the moment. The money is the easy fix. the space is what it is.

Oh, this is great and so much different from anything else you can find here an DA. I love the head, the photo, the picture on the computer... Don't really know what could be better. Somehow it looks as untidy as my desk, well, in a few decades^^

I wanted a cluttered looking shot for this one. I'm starting to play around with my digital camera more and learning 2 things:
1. I need practice
2. I need to figure out my camera better
Iwanted something that had all sorts of clutter and stuff going on, but focused somewhat on droid head. I never did like the first shot all too much. not bad per se, but no definition and pretty boring. I've noticed that on alot of my shots. So consequently I'm going back and redoing and improving the layout on my older pieces. Stuff like adding more details, better technical view layouts and and some sort of an "art view", with the particular piece as a focus. This was an "art view". I wanted a garage/repair shop type view. But, before I redo another older piece, i think I'll be submitting Technorantula next. For all intents and purposes, she's done.

sorry I haven't been writing too much in the way of notes but my schedule literally has been: workworkworkworkwork...... you get the idea. I've had a couple of 14 hour days of straight through drafting and running around, so mainly I've been focused on that and assemblage. Keep an eye out, I need to update my journal, so that may tide you over. I'll be stoopid and entertaining as usual.

(you sure it wasn't loukaniko and tieropetas that caused the heart-attacks? I like those better than saganaki, lol.)
