Process Part 4- Fin!
Well, I guess, I’m done. I’ve spent about 3 hrs, a comparable amount of time to a long pose in a life drawing session. I’ve decided to leave the “dragon wing” background as it balances out the model, but I’ve flattened out the overall shadow area because it was distracting. I’ve worked hard to show fatigue and muscle strain without becoming too photographic, this is a drawing after all. I hope to have captured exhausted determination on the model’s face. She’s thinking “just 8 more minutes till my friggin break!” What does this piece say? Not much, really, it’s just a portrayal of a moment in time that never happened. A commentary on the troubles that models go through for our art. The medium echoes “life drawing session” as any trained artist can relate to the countless hours of drawing models in a sooty charcoal mess. But wait a minute, isn’t this whole thing being drawn from a photo? Isn’t this just a big fraud? Well, maybe it is, but isn’t art all about creating illusions anyway?
