Well, it would definitely put them out of commission for a while so it would give a good reason as to why they don't reappear for a while yet.
And during that time, over in the Changeling homeland, the monarch's continued absence could leave a power vacuum which some opportunistic Changelings can take advantage, thus opening way for a new regime.
