Here's the promised speedpainting tutorial!
I'm sorry it's so big, but I honestly suck at Flash and this is the best I could do. I hope that you'll find it helpful!

you'll find all of the brushes I use here: [link]

Thank you for this! l'm a total beginner and l feel lost every time to try to start painting something. l have a feeling l'm trying to do too advanced things instead of taking it slow and easy and not investing 20 hours in a painting that won't look great anyway. This was a good tutorial and it gave me some perspective over how l should approach painting for now. Again, thanks

this is the best painting tutorial I've ever seen so far. Since I am having problems with using photoshop I found it super useful. Thanks to you for making this! It's fast, not annoying, fun to watch, easy to repeat and get back if you missed something. So much better then just watching videos. Again, thank you so much for what you did. It really helped me to understand!Β Β Β Β

Thank you for making this and sharing your technique. I must confess that I am guilty of paying too much attention to detail and am working to get out of the habit (especially for backgrounds).

I'm having trouble making my speedpaint look clear and not super fuzzy edged. It might just be my brushes, but what is the main brush you use besides the texture brushes?

... Could you make a version of this tutorial for Paint.net?
Photoshop costs like, a thousand dollars, which a thousand more than I have, and Paint.net doesn't have these oddly-shaped brushes you're using.

Oh boy do I ever have a surprise for you!Β
A little while ago, adobe released Photoshop CS2 completely free! This is because it's a little outdated compared to the newer ones, but it's photoshop nonetheless!Β
You can get instructions on how to download it here!Β www.redmondpie.com/download-ad…
You'll have to make an adobe account, but that's not much of a sacrifice since you'll be getting CS2 for free!
And I hope I don't sound like one of those automated virus thingies cause I swear I'm not and that i'm serious omg ;v;

Dachimotsu In reply to BLACKMAGlC [2015-08-21 10:32:39 +0000 UTC]

Wow.
Thanks a lot. Though, what exactly do you mean by outdated? What changed in the newer ones?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BLACKMAGlC In reply to Dachimotsu [2015-08-21 10:38:08 +0000 UTC]

I just mean outdated as in it's an older program \ ( o v o ) /
It still functions perfectly fine and you can use it for a lot of stuff (it even has an animation window so you can make animations, which personally I loved and still love)! I mostly meant outdated as in it'll lack some features that newer versions will have!
I've never really played around with newer versions so I can't say exactly what's been added/changed ;v;
Overall it still works great though!

welp, watching this just made me feel bad about myself XD no amount of practice could ever get me to anything close to that level. just doesnt seem like a possibility for me. good job though, im sure this helped some people with more ability.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SlickeHedge In reply to TrebleBlast [2015-06-09 09:27:36 +0000 UTC]

Don't feel bad. I might not be a pro, but I know that once you keep practicing and groove to your own pace; it might not be soon, but you will be able to scratch the canvas quite mightier than the gods themselves. And if your skills aren't at a professional level with a certain amount of practice, it is still guaranteed that you will have a smile on your face once you compare your skills by then and now.

Hope you dig this "inspirational", non-cliched speech that I didn't find off Google. ...please don't check.

A-Blue-Bubble In reply to TrebleBlast [2015-06-29 15:58:02 +0000 UTC]

well if you don't actually like making art and don't want to then you've got to decide whether you want to continue, but i know from experience and from observation that if you keep practicing you WILL get better. This isn't a probably and i'm not lying, i can guarantee you that if you keep drawing you will improve, while if you stop you definitely won't. I can honestly say with 100% certainty that if you keep drawing you'll get better, it literally isn't a choice it is a fact, if you keep drawing you will improve

Thanks so much for that great tutorial!
I want to start practicing speed paintings, because I love that style and you really helped me with understanding how this actually works!

But I have a question though. How much opacity and flow do you use with your brushes? Do you start with 100% each and turn it lower from layer to layer? Or do you just feel like changing it from time to time?

This was so helpful! Not too long either. Before seeing this I was't sure of what I wanted to do with art honestly. Now I realize, it doesn't matter. Set a basic goal and work at that. Just draw or paint because it feels good--I now understand.Β
I'm a beginner, but with good advice like what you've presented and an honest effort, I'll gain experience in no time.
