Organization XIII's Number VIII, the Flurry of Dancing Flames. Axel was Roxas' supervisor in the Organization, and the two soon became best friends. For a while, Axel was stationed to Castle Oblivion to watch over Marluxia, whom Xemnas suspected of treason. Axel and Roxas frequently eat ice cream together in Twilight Town and discuss over heartfelt matters. When Roxas left, Axel was heartbroken, and wished he would come back. He was even ordered to force Roxas to return or destroy him, an order he almost refused, but realized he was the only one who could carry it out. In Birth by Sleep, his previous self was Lea, a teenager who, along with his best friend Isa, became quick friends with Ventus.

Axel appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Spirit, represented by Roy in battle.
