Description As a long timer reader of Gunnerkrigg Court comic, I wanted to present a fanart piece that the author, Tom Siddell, can personally enjoy and to demonstrate how inspiring and, ya know, unique story he shared with millions. I ain't counting and I don't think they are either.

From me to you guys, and also with all your advice from the rough draft, it wouldn't be so complete!

--Yay on the DD!Β

Might be fun to do a few sketches of it, but I like how the comic does it. Someone on the forums is recreating the scene of flaming carver walking to that monster in 3d or something fantastic.Β

Viant-T In reply to BlackNinjaTwin [2013-10-27 22:12:04 +0000 UTC]

Hard? no. Tedious? yes. That and lots of practice beforehand helps. lol Thats what I use to think about how folks get their masterpieces done, but finding more of progress/step-by-step shots being made as well. Helps me get an idea just how to keep things simple and address each step. Though, this piece was more like a long walk in the dark. xD

Ugh! Β Just came here after reading the more recent pages of the comic and I immediately clicked on this when I saw the thumnail to make sure I was seeing right.

I love everything on this.

The textures on the trees and Ysengrin's fur and tree-body(and the birds roosting on him is a nice touch), the chickcharney between him and Annie, the lush foliage...the amount of detail on this is downright gorgeous. Β Every time I look there's some new detail I missed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Viant-T In reply to monkeyemoness [2013-10-27 04:42:33 +0000 UTC]

You ain't seeing right, you ment to click something else Im sure.

The textures were a semi-painful list of experiments to figure out, still didn't nail it all, but its a good start for learning a bunch of new things. Lots of refs

yes, everyone's good friends here, annie might have brought out a tea set. (really was tempting to put on a rock nearby actually)

monkeyemoness In reply to Viant-T [2013-10-28 05:30:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, they're pretty convincing, so there's that. Β At the very least you did get some experience by experimenting with textures so the next time it might be easier to end up with something that works.

Heh, now I can't see this without imagining a tea set. Β Part of me wants to think it would fit perfectly.

At first I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this piece in the DD section. This is pure magic! The amount of detail is simply baffling, and the mood is perfect! I just love the doves on Ysengrin(the big grump <3), and the lighting, and the pixies.... A DD well deserved Β

yay you mentioned the pixies! first person to noticed those 15 pixels that I couldnt' remotely figure out how to do well.Β

Glad to hear that! Miyazaki is pure magic, and Howl in particular has been a favourite of mine for many years. I had no idea Tom was a fan too though. Hmmm....*lights pipe* There must be clues that can be hunted down, Watson... There must! *sleuths merrily away*

Oi! xD They may be small, but they are not invisible. Unless, of course, when they want to be.

You are very welcome! <3 The work you've done is amazing and truly does deserve every praise Β

Wonderful interpretation of the characters, and their odd and unique relationship in the forest. Beautiful and thoughtful detail in the forest! I love that it feels so put together, but not overly polished so it retains an organic feeling. Great lighting and sense of depth. Really a very well done job!

Viant-T In reply to athenapallas87 [2013-10-27 04:28:11 +0000 UTC]

Im gonna look back at this and realize how generalized I had made majority of the scene, but then again, that was my intention when I started was to make it look painterly to keep that organic feeling in. Glad to see someone did a spot on description of exactly that!Β

Oh wow.Β Β  I only recently picked up this comic myself. It was part of a comic competition and I was annoyed it beat out one of my favorites, but I decided that maybe fans knew something I didn't. I got addicted to it and I read through it a little quicker than advisable.

Β

This is an amazing piece of work and truly shows an intimate moment that I just love. There's so much going on at any moment, and yet, there is a peacefulness here. I would rather like this on my wall, perhaps in my living room. lovely.
