Description
The creatures from the last sketch dump were quite reasonable, and I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of them will end up making it. In this one, I decided to work on some creatures that were a bit more...out there. I'm a lot more skeptical about some of these guys than the previous ones, and there's a good chance they'll end up shelved, but this was a fun exercise nonetheless!1) Minotaur - a large chalicothere/ground sloth-convergent agriochoerid with large ossicones (this is the one I'm most on the fence about); endemic to Atlantis
2) Gajahmina - a large, paddlefish-like osteoglossiform endemic to Lemuria (yes it's supposed to look like an arapaima; yes I've been watching River Monsters; yes you may expect giant dragon vs giant fish art soon)
3) Wihwin - a semi-aquatic cetancodontamorph cousin of entelodonts that inhabits parts of the Abya Yalan (Central American) archipelago
4) Moonegret - a cattle egret-like eurypygiform with a penchant for ants & termites; endemic to Lemuria
5) *name pending* (working title - sauropod bird) - a giant, high-browsing paleognath bird descended from lithornithids, related and similar to ratites; endemic to Atlantis
6) Ganywae - a large, foul-tempered fowl with a beak that can crack coconuts (and bones) with ease; endemic to Lemuria
7) Centicore - a uintathere-like metatherian endemic to Lemuria with ossicones, boar-like tusks, and extra long tufts of fur on its ears that can give the appearance of rotating horns. This one was so much fun that I might include it just for the heck of it!
8) Troll - An afrotherian convergent with chalicotheres, gorillas, and pandas found in Europe and northwest Asia; has a saiga antelope-like trunk for warming up cold incoming air, tusks, and dense, matted fur and tubercle-ridden skin. This was mostly inspired by a conversation I had recently with a friend who pointed out that, despite their ridiculous diversity, no afrotheres evolved to become upright browsers, which is odd seeing as how numerous large mammal clades such as perissodactyls (chalicotheres), notoungulates (homaladotheres), xenarthrans (ground sloths), primates (gorillas, Archaeoindris), carnivorans (giant pandas), and marsupials (palorchestids, sthenurine kangaroos) and even non-avian dinosaurs such as therizinosaurs all evolved to fill this niche independently (this was an experiment in depicting the earlier, more fantastical trolls than later, more human-looking ones, still on the fence about it though)
Expect maybe one more sketch dump, probably dedicated to primates and/or hominids at some point.
