Description
So here's one of my newest ships for my verse, and I love them!Zephyr Breeze and Lightning Dust didn't get together because of any sort of romantic feelings but rather as a scheme of sorts. Lightning Dust met Zephyr Breeze in a bar up in Cloudsvale where she heard him bragging to some other patrons about how he and Rainbow Dash, one of the highest ranking Wonderbolts, used to date before she got famous and how she was now begging him to get back together.
Lightning who was still looking for plans to get back at her old nemesis saw this stallion as an opportunity and went to make him an offer. She promised to pay him to pretend that they were a couple infront of Rainbow Dash in order to make her jealous.
Zephyr Breeze agreed and so they would attend Washout shows as well as Wonderbolt shows whilst showing of infront of the media to spread the "news" as quick and wide as possible. During thet time they did everything together. Zephyr Breeze even moved in with Lightning Dust in order to keep it as "authentic" as possible just in case some paparazzi were to pop up by her house, she was still captain of the Washouts afterall and no stranger to controversy.
They would do over the top "romantic couple stuff" like going on picnics, give eachother sweet pet names, taking long walks on the beach, watch the sunset together etc. At first they both acted like two love sick fools in public but would bicker and butt heads about pretty much anything whenever they were left alone (like what the most romantic color on candles is or which is the sappiest love song). After a while though their attitudes gradually changed and they would have actual meaningful conversations and would sit close or even cuddle up next to eachother even when they didn't have to.
The two "dated" for several weeks before Lightning Dust finally managed to catch Rainbow Dash out in the open to show of her new "special somepony". At first Rainbow tried to be civil and keep a straight face but pretty quickly broke down into laughter and pointed out that the two were pretty much made for eachother. She also explained that she had never dated Zephyr and never ever would.
Having found out Zephyr lied to her Lightning Dust was fuming and took her money back then threw him out. They both intended to just go back to their normal lives and forget everything about the experience but instead both of them sat around sulking.
The rest of the Washouts got fed up with Lightning Dust's pouting and made her realize that she actually missed the huge douchebag and made her go make amends. The two quickly made up and started dating for real this time.
Okay so yeah, some backstory I guess.
Here is a list of what's happening in the pictures:
1: Lightning Dust making the proposition to Zephyr.
Zephyr Breeze was quite eager as he figured it would make Rainbow Dash want him if she saw him with somepony else
2: Lightning telling Zephyr about her deep loathing for Rainbow Dash and all the times she has "ruined" her chances in life.
Lightning Dust: She finds a way to ruin everything for me! That's why I need to have something she wants!
Zephyr Breeze: wow... this feels very... sane. A completely normal and sane way to deal with your problems.
Lightning Dust: Are you mocking me?
Zephyr Breeze: No, no! I didn't mean any by it, please forget I said anything!
3: Zephyr trying to preen Lightning's wings when she wasn't prepared for it.
Lightning Dust: *floofs up in surprise* What the heck are you doing?!
Zephyr Breeze: I'm trying to like preen you or whatever, isn't that what couples do?
Lightning Dust: Well yeah sure but atleast give me a damn heads up! Besides you're just ruffling them up! Have you never preened someone elses wings before?
Zephyr Breeze: Technically no, but come on it's not that bad!
Lightning Dust: Oh yeah, it's bad. Come here and I'll show you instead
4: Zephyr and Lightning out watching a show feeling all warm, fuzzy and confused about standing so close to eachother.
5: Lightning just having found out Zephyr lied and throwing him out.
Lightning Dust: She laughed in my damned face you jerk wad! I can't believe you wasted my time on all this!
Zephyr Breeze: Ditto, you nasty pigeon!
There ya go! They often sound mad at eachother and yell a lot but that's just their way of saying "I love you, be safe"
Now to work on their sweet little kid haha

Nahwww, they look so cute together, and work surprisingly well together. I always love original pairings haha, especially when they're well thought out as to why they would work.

My favorite part of this is the story behind it. It just sounds like something that the two of them would do. I'm glad the two of them made up after the jealousy plan completely blew up in their faces. Those two really do work together if you think about it enough. Anyway, loving the various pictures here, especially the expressions (and nice touch with giving Zephyr a blaze). Looking forward to seeing what their kid(s) are like!

I really love these two together lately, their issues kinda work well together somehow
I love subtle horse markings on ponies! It also felt fitting for one of them to have one to sort of make them stand out from the one another

Agreed. The same qualities that Zephyr looks for in Rainbow Dash can be found in Lightning Dust, and Lightning would certainly enjoy somepony paying her more attention than Rainbow Dash (even if it's just an act, at first), so the ship ends up working out pretty well and feels natural.
Me too! Wish they would use them more often in the show, such as Sunburst (and family), Troubleshoes, and Pipsqueak. Zephyr's blaze also provided a nice contrast to his darker muzzle (even though I know it's just meant to symbolize an unshaven face). That's a good point too, since if one did not know who these characters were, one could assume they were related, possibly even siblings.

Wind Rider hates Zephyr and will let him know whenever they are alone together however he tries his best to be civil when he's around Lightning Dust since he knows she really likes him and all
Ever since the whole thing with Rainbow Dash Wind Rider hasn't been around much though, and rarely ever see Lightning Dust
They do seem like a good match after thinking about it for a while lol

Hey, what pushed Wind Rider over the edge to commit what he did to Rainbow. It seems it happened a while after he got kicked out of the Wonderbolts after attempting to frame her.

A lot of ponies lost their respect for him and let him know on a regular basis, that combined with just letting his bitterness fester over time eventually pushed him over the edge
He did regret it right after doing it but that didn't really make anything better of course and so he just ran and hid instead of owning up to anything cause well, he is a narcisist, coward and overall asshole

I'm not sure if I'm going to do my original plan for them meeting again but I will definately have Rainbow beating up Wind Rider at some point

What was Lightning Dust like when she was pregnant?
I just want to see a hormonal Lightning Dust crying and hugging Zephyr who just confused but wants to enjoy some affection that doesn't involve getting smacked on the head.

I can definately see her doing that haha.
I also had an idea of her being so bored of not getting to fly later on in her pregnancy that she constantly tries to sneak in some air time whenever Zephyr isn't looking. Zephyr is super protective of their unborn child and just wants Lightning Dust to take a chill pill and please stop doing stupid things and will try to drag her down to the ground again whenever heavily pregnant Lightning tries to fly away.
