“Old fashioned and perhaps overly friendly, Abbey Alphabat was Welcome Home’s most experimental neighbor. Despite having struggles comprehending newer fashions, this friendly neighbor wants nothing more, but to experience new exciting things with her new friends.”

Abbey Alphabat was a mysterious, but friendly vampire puppet on Welcome Home. She was introduced on the first Halloween special the show had and, according to some incomplete scripts, was meant to eventually become a mainstay on the show. However, for some reason, it seems that they abandon her character halfway through the season. She was then only briefly mentioned in small references from that point forward only coming up one last time for another Halloween special.

Her purpose on the show was to perform segments for younger children to learn the alphabet, new words, and pronunciation. There were many small hints that she is secretly and canonically much older than the rest of the cast and, in some of those incomplete scripts, it showed her having a motherly energy towards other characters when they are scared.

She was also often depicted having a veil when she was outside and taking it off when she’s inside of homes. She also seemed a bit frightened by Sally on many occasions, believing that she was the sun for a brief moment before calming herself. Though never directly mentioned, it is believed that this is supposed to be a reference to the fact that vampires cannot be in the sun. She also made it a point to ask for permission to enter any home she came to visit, probably another vampiric reference.

Unlike the rest of the neighborhood which have very simple interconnected lives, she was meant to be a little bit more intertwined with the personal lives of her neighbors and act as a bit of an accidental troublemaker when she wasn’t doing her segments.
