The hottest fire burns blue. Because she’s and absolute fucking prodigy at Firebending she’s figured out how to make her fire hotter than everyone else’s, hence why its blue. 🙃

I was looking at this beautiful piece of art, being overwhelmed with feels and memories of this perfectly executed fight scene and then scrolled down and read that comment in the most blunt voice imaginable. Died. XD

Lol, I get ya. I did really love the battle because I had been waiting for it for two seasons. It was the battle that had been built up more than any other fight in the series. It was the battle that was meant to be.

Then for some reason Katara stole the show. It seemed kinda anti-climactic and forced in just to make sure Katara wasn't useless.

Katara had grown so much in her skill over the show. I rewatched episode 1 and was baffled I was seeing the same person. Back then, she couldn't even maintain a small orb of water for long without splashing someone. She definitely needed to play a role in the fight against the fire nation, but pitting her against Azula may not have been the best choice, especially since it took away from the emotion of brother vs sister in a fate-deciding showdown. I just don't know where else she could have been useful.

Note: I love Katara. I just have some problems with how she was handled by the writers.

Katara's growth in skill was kinda bull if you ask me.
It's not that I preferred her weak. I do like that she was not a useless female character.
But she spent the entirety of season one rather untalented and normally would rely on her heart and wits.
Then right at the end of season one, she surpassed Aang and a number of other well trained benders within the span of a week at most.
I felt kinda robbed.
I was so excited to see her train and gradually become a master, but instead we pretty much skipped over he training and suddenly she's like the best water bender who can defeat even Azula despite Azula being a natural talent her entire life. And before you say it was because Azula was crazy, I'm talking about when they fought at the end of season two. Some how she got a hold of Azula and Zuko had to save her. I called bullshit because not even Aang (despite Katara and Zuko both pointing out how Aang is a natural talent) or Zuko (who has been working hard his entire life) could ever get a hold of Azula.
It kinda became apparent to me that the creators favored her over everyone else and really were trying to push the "girl-power" thing on Katara real hard.
It kinda made her feel like a Mary Sue.

That said, I don't hate Katara. I just think she could've been better written. Several attempts to make her stronger or more interesting sorta resulted in her outshining everyone or acting out of character, and she never seemed to ever be confronted on her flaws. 

So yeah, I think it WAS necessary to give Katara a big role in the finale, but it should've been elsewhere. Like, maybe make her fight a dragon. I don't care. But Zuko and Azula's fight had so much build up towards it while there was hardly any build up around Katara herself.

Fair enough. It always did bug me how she managed to so easily overpower Hama and break from her blood bending hold almost as if it was nothing. She even had to throw in that line, "my bending is stronger than yours". Yeah, I get your frustration.

Yeah, it always bugs me when characters do that. It doesn't ruin the characters for me, but it potentially could. As a kid, I was so pissed that Katara stole Zuko's fight with Azula, the fanboy side of me hated on pretty much everything she did. Buuuuut, that was dumb, and I remember episodes like "The Desert" to remind me why I liked her character to begin with.
Zuko is still my favorite, though. He had the best and most gradual character development. Even though at some points it felt like the writers were holding him back rather than it actually looking like he should be weak.

I agree! I hear that the creators felt the same way too. The music and the way Azula had snapped at the end... just breathtaking...

It carried a lot more emotion too. Becuase we saw a lot more of Azula and Zuko's conflicts, even beginning from when they were children. This boiled down to their final fight being a lot more tense than Aang and the fire lord, because we knew he was the BAD guy but there wasnt much of a spark behind their battle. Aang had to do it, firelord had to do it..pfft what ever. But the sibling's battle was personal, giving that deeper feel :C
