Description
My first entry for iPandacakes DTA : fav.me/d9r1npkSo, I wasn't sure if I should design a cutie mark because he's a dragon-pony, but I did just in case. And I'm sorry the scales aren't in the same place, it looked kinda weird.
Anyways, on with the bio! It's very long x3
Unbeknownst to the general public, Luna had another job in addition to raising the moon. Each night, she would light up the stars after taking care of the moon. But doing so was harder than you would think.
Luna's original magic was not enough to light up all the stars at the same time. She either had to light the stars one by one, or have easy access to the North Star. The North Star was the "headquarters" of all stars, and once it was lit up, all stars would be too. But Luna's magic wasn't powerful enough to reach all the way to that star. To do that, it would take a lot of years of training, and Equestria needed a starry sky. So, Celestia and her most powerful students worked up a spell so that Luna could travel through time and space, reach the North Star, and light it. But for Luna to create this portal every single day was very tiring for her, and Celestia would worry if she would come back safely.
Finally, one day after Twilight's coronation, a scientist-scholar duo found a solution to this. First, you would have to take an egg from a female dragon, but the father would have to be a unicorn. And the egg would have to be put out in the moonlight every night until birth so it could absorb its magic and get used to it. Then, once the egg hatched, Luna would have to be the first pony it saw so they would have a bond. After that, the colt/filly would be trained to use its fire to light the North Star. With dragon fire and unicorn magic combined, it would be enough. And, the foal would be training from a young age, so they would remember it better. Luna approved the plan. After all, what could go wrong?
After traveling to lands around Equestria, they finally found a dragon/pony couple that was willing to give up some of their DNA. Then, with the help of Discord, he created an midnight-blue and silver egg. Luna treated it with care, and she was determined to be a prefect mother.
Every night, after Luna lit the stars, she would be tired. But, she still took her little egg out into the light so he could absorb the magic. Sometimes, she would even fall asleep next to her baby. Then, she would have to wake up after an hour to go patrol dreams, but the egg was always on her mind. Oftentimes, she would have her royal guard babysit so nothing happened to her precious baby.
One fateful day, after 42 days and 42 nights had passed, the egg started to hatch. All of Equestria came to their new televisions (a new invention at the time) to watch as the egg broke open. A beautiful silver and blue dragon-pony was born, and Luna was very proud of her child.
Luna took tips from the best mothers in Equestria (Rarity, Twi, Sapphire Shores, Coco Pommel, and Fluttershy) and raised her child flawlessly. It seemed that he would become a well behaved, nice colt. Luna named her child Kyanite, or Kyan. Kyanite, Prince of the Stars.
But once he could walk, everything changed. Luna tried to pick him up and kiss him, but he wriggled away. A pony approached him one day, and he spat at her. It seemed the royal baby was rebelling.
In a hurry, Luna tried to set her son straight. But the little colt was far beyond control. Sadly, he was untrainable and Luna had to continue lighting the stars herself. Equestria could no longer find another compatible couple that was willing to give up their DNA. So, Kyan lived in the castle as a bratty, independent pony. He got an attitude and turned angsty as the years went on. He endured one day of training to light the stars...then he slapped the trainer and jumped out the window.
For years, Kyan lived like this. He would often hang out with "bad" ponies, like gangs and thugs. He thought he was pretty cool and slick.
But one night, Luna went to light the North Star and didn't return. Equestria didn't think much of it, they thought she was probably running late. But when the day came and more than 50 cases of bad nightmares were reported, Equestria went into a state of panic. Luna was gone.
When Kyan was asked about the whereabouts of his mother, he took off his headphones and spat " I could care less." But as night after night remained starless, he realized that he could care more.
Every night, Celestia and a few members of her guard created the portal and went on a search for Luna. But each night, they returned empty-hoofed. It wasn't until one night when they returned with Luna's crown, broken and battered, that Kyan came to his senses. Each night in secret, he practiced the little magic he knew and he was determined to use his fire to light the North Star and bring his mother back. After Equestria almost gave up hope that their princess was coming back again, Kyan was ready.
That night, Kyan traveled to the Castle of the Two Sisters and found an elevated place to sit where he could also see the North Star clearly. He tried to make a flame, but when it got stuck in his throat, it burned so much he started to cry. With tears streaming down his face, he fought the pain and sent a line of fire spiraling up into the sky. Watching the flame get higher and higher, he willed his mother to come back down.
Suddenly, the flame disappeared. As if it had gone through a portal, it reappeared inches away from the North Star. When it reached it, the sky was suddenly illuminated with the light of a thousand stars. Screams and marvels could be heard from villages nearby.
Kyan was proud of himself, but he became worried when no trace of his mother was found. He tried to conjure up more fire, but his throat was scorched. He started sobbing again, laying in the grass.
Suddenly, a great blue flash of light careened through the sky, and Kyan jumped up. After he heard a big thud in the nearby forest, he ran towards the noise.
In the middle of a blue circle of fire, lay Princess Luna. Her face was badly burned and her skin was tattered. Kyan screamed for help and nearby ponies came for him. They dragged Princess Luna to the hospital, but Kyan insisted to stay in the forest. He knew that if he hadn't been such an annoying prick, his mother's life wouldn't be in danger. It was daytime when he finally returned to the castle.
Luna, lying in a hospital bed, was happy to see him. For the first time in 17 years, Kyan allowed her to hug him. And, he hugged her back.
Luna made a full recovery after half a year, and Kyan has been lighting the stars ever since.
