EDIT: : endorell-taelos.deviantart.com…
This is, at last done, my entry for , and contest: fav.me/d70sqer
Everyone that know me well know that I just adore fairy tales, I can spend hours and hours reading and rereading them, all kinds of, from falklor to modern ones, so this was a challenge I really couldn't miss, and I am really proud how it turned out, all the tiny details really paid off!
Basically, theme of contest was to create an artwork based on a fairy tale featuring one or more of their OC's, and after lot of thinking and reconsidering, I have decided to do my own take on Disney animated feature *Frozen*. There are a few reasons, but main ones are that I really adored original version of the Snow Queen fairy tale, so Frozen is in essence (despite in some parts flawed), a very interesting adaptation; and as well, it has a rich pallete of characters to choose from, and for this entry, since it's a joined contest of three people with their different OCs, I really wanted to represent as many of offered 15 characters as I could. ( because, why not?
)
I managed to find versions for most of main characters, expect for the Sven and merchant; as one is deer, and as for other, I didn't quite find quitable kind of villain from offered list. : (
I as well tried to be as symmetrical with characters choice, with 2 characters from Piccolaria, 3 from Mirz, and 3 from Endorell.
These are characters from bottom to top, and their equavalents in universe of Frozen:
- Emmanuel as Hans endorell-taelos.deviantart.com…
There can be seen only his eyes, for sake of composition, but I think I managed to give him justice. I was deciding a lot between the three offered villains, but Em somehow really stood out in the end for this role. I really think he can work as a villain of the story, as basically whole profile page of Em fit with the personality of the Hans; he is intelligent and wise, but controling and greedy, he has pleasure in getting everything he wants, even if it means being cruel to ones he loves, and too, is not hesitant to be falsely kind to get what he wants. Hans tries to kill the queen and princess to become king, and to be more powerful, Emannuel is ready to sacrifice his child, so as I said, I find those two match quite nicely. As well, in cannon, Hans tries to kill Elsa, while Emannuel tries to kill Luciana, and I liked that parrellel too : )
Frozen heart in the middle of work represents one of mains motives of the movie, frozen heart, but in same time, it represents villain's heart, as Anna ( Sara) would put it, * the only frozen heart here is yours*. So baddas line
- Michael Bruce as King of Arendelle mirzjiles.deviantart.com/journ…
Born into the prominent Bruce family, Michael Bruce is heir to one of the largest real estate empires in the world, and as being such, he really gives me such impression as a figure of power, and a very loving and strong person, as if made to be king. He was really hard to pull out for me, as before I don't think I ever did more masculine man, but I hope I gave him justice <3
- Aralyn as Queen of Arendelle piccolaria.deviantart.com/art/…
For long I thought whom to pair up with Michael as a King, and more I browsed through the profiles, more I realized this character really fit. She is patient, loving, and as she's accustomised to witstand even the worst situations, I imagined she would do well with dealing with hardships of having a child with magical powers, and be a caring support to her husband, too. I don't know if I am first to pair those two, but I really am sure they would be a good pair, so I couldn't help it not to SHIIIPPPPP
- Ravenswood Cadavre as Kristoff mirzjiles.deviantart.com/journ…
The profile sheet speaks for itself. > Ravenswood has a general mistrust of strangers and sometimes takes a long time to warm up to new people--but once he does he can be a very loyal and outgoing friend. He's good at seeing situations from other people's points of view, but is still often stubborn about his own opinions. Has a snarky and sometimes bizarre sense of humor, and often makes jokes during stressful situations. < I think all of this just perfectly goes with the character of Kristoff, who too, takes a time to really starts liking Anna, but as time passes by, he grows more and more fond of her, even growing to love her by time, with his own special kind of love. As I said, quite sweet and fitting, and even the character himself slightly remins me with his look on the sweet ice cutter
- Kisha as supstitute for Bulda the troll piccolaria.deviantart.com/art/…
I am sorry she had to be so tiny, but if you download, I am sure you can see her better, with more details. As for Frozen itself, I really must admit it kind of annoyyed me that the trolls were never explained better, and weren't as magnificent as I hoped them to be. So, since this is our take on 'Frozen', I decided mine version will vary a bit, as instead of trolls race, I will use fairies, and as fairy that likes Ravenswood, the little fairy Kisha. I really like this colorful little character so much, she's very lovely and seems so energetic, that I had to find a way to put her! I would deem that, finding little boy, she would grow to love him very much, and even follow him on some of his journeys
Trolls as well, or at least some of them, share similar kind of healing powers as fairies do, with the old troll Pabbie healing Anna's frozen mind, so I think also healing fairy kind is equal match to them. I imagine too, that while trolls turn to stone, fairies can turn to flowers to camuflage... That would at least explain what the hell would a random flower do in the middle of the snow in the movie: media1.onsugar.com/files/2013/…
- Luciana as queen Elsa endorell-taelos.deviantart.com…
What can I say Endorell ; I am sure that if I told you I am doing take of Frozen, you would suspect at least this choice. I really think that Luciana is a perfect take for the Snow Queen. Rare to smile, long to take trust in someone, through as temperimental, Luci really was innevitable to take this role.
As for the hair, I was thinking a lot wheather to make it white or blakc, but this work actually decided it for me: piccolaria.deviantart.com/art/…
As soon as I had seen last haircut, and the description of it ( Such a thing could be possible in the real story if something drastic happened to her such a spell backfiring or an enchantment.. ) I knew that this was the enchantment of the icy white hair that I simply had to do
- Sara Wolff as princess Anna mirzjiles.deviantart.com/journ…
> Despite being articulate and gracious in public situations, Sara is fairly shy and insecure. She takes her professional and personal responsibilities very seriously. She is loyal and protective of her wards and family. She's almost overly nice and sweet, and people sometimes mistake her behavior as being fake or insincere. Despite being worldly and knowledgeable in many areas, Sara can also be very naive--a trait that has often caused her trouble. <
Yup, I think this part of the sheet sums it up, at least mostly. Just like Anna, Sara is heartfelt, kind and nice, but fearsome when those close to her are in question, and for them, she will fight till the very end. Anna is without question my favorite Frozen character, with her spirit and personality, and so I was very pleased I could do a work with Sara in her place, I deem they can fit nicely.
As well, in roleplay between Endorel and Mirz, Luciana and Sara are really close, so I figured that it's not a bad paralell if I made them play roles of sisters here, as Elsa and Anna <3
- Dasarine as Olaf endorell-taelos.deviantart.com…
Okay, this one is a bit of a cheat, and is more of a tiny easter egg for my lovely Endorell. In the Frozen, I didn't really approve that Elsa created Olaf, such a main character, simply as result of testing her powers in song *Let it go*. I wanted it to be more meaningful, more emotional process, not just an accident. In my take on the tale, he is a not just random snowman, he's a version of creature called golem. In Jewish folklore, a golem (גולם, sometimes, as in Yiddish, pronounced goilem) is an animated being created entirely from inanimate matter. The creatures are said to be controlled by an eye that is placed in the forehead. The controller uses a globe, mirror, or bowl of water to control it. Early on, it was noted that the main disability of the golem was its inability to speak, and having nonspeaking *Olaf* could be a interesting concept. In the Talmud, first man Adam was initially created as a golem (גולם) when his dust was "kneaded into a shapeless husk." I imagine that Olaf ( Dasarine) would be such kind of golem, not really alive, but not unliving, either, being on the border between worlds, being ultimately bound to Luciana's will, but also having a certain sanity of his own. Luciana, once she run away from capital when her powers were revealed and made her castle, despite free, was lonely, and from the snow, she created the human shape, pretending it to be alive and make her company, and she wishes so hard for it to be alive, and play with her just like her sister Sara once did, that her wish made snow live, once she pulled out and placed some of the locks of her own white hair in the snowy head of the creature to make it appear more friendly. After surprise from his being alive passed, she clothed him in some clothes she found in the mountains, and thus Das was made. Since she was thinking so intently of her sister at a time he was created, and good times they had in childhood, she imprinted her memories into the creature she created, and thus, Das is filled with the love two sisters had for each others and is a link between them, his only memories those of them as kids. He likes warm hugs, and one day hopes ( not to see the summer), but became a real human, and share normal human life with Luciana whom he grew to love during their solitude.. And, since it's Disney, well, who knows? Maybe one day
All in all, uppps, I wrote so much, hope this submits well, it's already three past midn ight, I really must go to beeeeed....

I must say your work never ceases to impress and amaze me! I must admit I had a feeling someone would do a Frozen mashup in this contest. I think you portrayed everyone so wonderfully and I think everything is very much spot on. I am trying so hard not to squeal right now knowing this is a contest and we must judge all entries fairly and accordingly. I will have to comment some more after the contest is over.
Thank you so very much for entering and good luck!

And I must say your comments never cease to warm my heart, my dear! You always truly know to draw a smile on my face, and I must admit, not once, I but keep rereading them! They always make me so happy!
I am so glad you like it, Alicia ( squeeling level of liking is a cherry on top ), and yes, almost since beginning, while I considered many other ideas and traditional fairy tales, idea of Frozen kept reapearing. For long I struggled trying to figure out best combination for Beauty and the Beast, my favorite Disney, but with many main characters unliving objects, it didn't hold to me as much charm, as I wouldn't be able to represent too many from offered characters ( and option of drawing Lykaious in werewolf form wearing clothes felt kind of unsetling
) . Same was with the other choices I considered, like variations of it, or variations of Snowhite called the Snowhite and Seven Knights, a sweet tale, and as well other options included traditional Rapunsel, Red Riding Hood, and few others... But I just couldn't get out of my head idea of Frozen, and Sara and Luciana as sisters, in dramatic stance... And later, when I more and more started liking pairing of Michael and Aralyn and decided I really want them on drawing, as well as when I decided to definitely add Kesha to the image if it kills me ( such a sweet fairy, overloads my inner fantasy lover) the idea just started to take shape, of villain's eyes at top, two sisters at bottom, and parents who supported them in past, and friend who supports them in present in the middle of drawing... And frozen, icy heart... Once that idea was formed, it just wouldn't leave my head until put on paper.
But to not hide, it was stil a tight choice whether to do Frozen of original Snow Queen for some time, despite. I don't know if you have read the story, but if you didn't, don't hesitate sometimes when you have time, it's definitelly a pure gold and one of my favorite fairy tales of all time

So it sounds like Frozen was the best choice for you. Almost like it was begging you to draw it.
I recall watching a television movie on Hans Christian Anderson's the Snow Queen with Gerda and Kai... I think it was this one en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Que… it was a great but long movie because it was a mini-series. I'm certainly interested in one day reading the actual story. Would you know where I could find it?

Oh, yes, indeed, begging me to draw it definitely sounds like it. It truly wouldn't leave me be unless deciding on it
And I haven't watched that particular movie, but by synopsis, it doesn't seem to be as innocent and heartwarming as original, I think that animated features are more prone to accomplish such a thing. I watched few different versions of 2D cartoons as younger, through, and by my opinion, this one is the one that represents story the best, and it's inner spirit ( maybe just nostalgia speaking from me, but it feels so at least to me ) So, as I said, really warm recommend, worthy spend one hour.. when I think of it, I think I will rewatch it right now, to enjoy myself a bit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV1M1y…
From this production house, as well beautiful adaptation is the Wild Swans, it's very engaging, too, so if you want and have time, of course, don't think at it as any obligation, you can check it out and don't forget to share what do you think
And I read the actual story on my language when I was little, from storybook, but I think that, by google search and browsing through it, this site has the whole version of original: www.online-literature.com/hans…
So, hope you enjoy it

I have to say, this is quite impressive. I am seriously behind the times as I have not seen Frozen yet, but my kids and husband love it. So in some ways, I'm kinda happy as I'm able to look at this from more of the raw fairy tale POV.
I won't comment too much now, but will after the judging. But, there are a few things I wanted to note. Yes, Luciana and Sara have a deep affection in their many histories. So sisters is appropriate. And Michael and Aralyn is a shipping I love. I don't think anyone other than I have toyed around with it, but I have done a couple of pieces in the past (for contests) which have shipped them. But Michael is my OCs. It's cool someone outside thinks they would be a good pair.
Anyhow, a lovely piece. Thank you very much for entering and

Oh, it's pity you didn't see it so far, by my opinion, Beauty and the Beast is probably still the best classic of Disney, but Frozen is very good too, and the relationship between sisters is very sweet.. er.. I don't know how much of it you know, so to avoid spoilers ( if I knew, I wouldn't write so much on comparing the characters not to spoil it for you) I will not say anything more, but I hope you'll manage to watch it out sometimes, it's definitely worth an hour or two of the time ( and the original Andersen's story, if you haven't read it jet, is a real marvel, a jewel, one of my fav stories, I warmly recommend it ) .
And, of course, I am looking forward to any more feedback later, too, I always love to hear what people think of how representing of their characters turned out to be.
Also, must mention, I am glad you like the pairing of Michael and Aralyn, I was rather nervous about that one, as working out love interests isn't my strongest side, I guess, but I just had a very good feeling about them, and couldn't help pairing them, so I am glad you like it too
