---------------------------------------------------

'I have a problem, Severus.' said Voldemort softly.

'My Lord?' said Snape.

Voldemort raised the Elder Wand, holding it as delicately and precisely as a conductor's baton.

'Why doesn't it work for me, Severus ?'

(...)

'I have thought long and hard, Severus...do you know why I have called you back from the battle ?'

And for a moment Harry saw Snape's profile : his eyes were fixed upon the coiling snake in its enchanted cage.

'No, my Lord, but I beg you will let me return. Let me find Potter.'

This was a WIP but honestly I don't want to touch it anymore. At least for the moment. And I won't let it in my scraps for centuries again.
---
And :

I have some critics about a few things in the books. But IMO this scene was really brilliant.

EDIT
I slightly attenuated the ghostly effect finally. You can find the original file in my scrapbook, here : [link]

When I think about this scene, I can only see Severus' face... In this chapter, feelings and events - everything is focussing on his face and his eyes - it's haunting, and I just wanted to convey it...Well, as usual, I started with no project in mind, just with his face, and I soon understood that he can only be here - here in front of his death. Worrying only about his mission.

This is the most difficult I believe for me- when it is enough simple, or enough sophisticate? When must I stop drawing, when is it the best finish ???

It is haunting, and I agree that to focus on his face is extremely effective. At least when you're drawing it, it is. I think some of your uncertainty translates into the drawing itself, and makes your figures full of suspense.
I don't know when you should stop drawing a particular piece, though. I just know I don't want you to stop drawing, period.

Great, it's so dark perfekt for the upcoming events. I like your Severus very much here.

I like him too here. I mean, he has his black eyes, long nose, long hair, tension in the face, etc...Well, I like him thin and slender. Maybe other fans prefer him more 'solid' and masculin

I don't think that 'solid' and masculin fits Severus Snape. So I like your pictures of him better than other Snape pics.

It makes me sad, because I know what's coming next, and it's apparant from the look on his face that HE knows what's coming, too. Well done! Probably your most evocative Snape thus far!

Rowling was a genius here, wasn't she ? At the very first reading, I was very surprised of his fear and stammering. We know he isn't invulnerable, but he is a better occlumens and self-controlled man usually. (I thought : 'My God, no, no ! He IS NOT a Death Eater!!! Impossible ! This is only Lucius or Draco upon polyjuice or something, lol !!!!) .....Well. So good. I always thought that he doesn't really care about his coming death. After all, he has been only a living dead since Lily's death. And his last year hasn't certainly been very cheerful and enjoyable. So, for me here he isn't feared for himself and he is only worrying about the fact that if he dies now, he can't tell Harry about the Horcruxes and Voldemort won't be defaited. What about you ???

Thanks, BTW. I'm glad.

Exactly right! I don't think he fears death as much as he fears failing to tell Harry what he needs to know. I think that he could pretty much "read" Voldemort, and knew what he was going to do. By his repeated offers to go get Harry, he just wanted to try for one last opportunity to give him this vital information before he was killed.

Hum. I'm not clear. I meant : he is looking at Nagini because he knows that his little discussion with Potter is now really urgent, as told him Dear Dumbledore, ok, and, that's right - he is feared of being killed before he'll find the boy. Poor Severus certainly even wasn't paying attention to Voldy's explanation for his murder. Rowling is really good at this king of cruelty.

beat me to it: I was going to say "ghostly" as well. If Severus were to become a ghost that is sure a likely place for him to haunt...

Vizen In reply to dronarron [2008-09-05 09:07:03 +0000 UTC]

It's a very lonely place, even for him...Really, he would prefer the dungeons; I think, where he could fear the students a little bit more with insults and detentions!

But I'm sure he didn't want to become a ghost - life was enough insuffurable...

Ok, ok.

Maybe I'll have enough energy and I'll redo it without the ghostly effect

This looks so real to me. I mean, when I read the book, this was the atmosphere I imagined. That wall on the back!!! OMG, Bea!!!!
And of course, our dear Severus. He is absolutely perfect here. Thank you for sharing!

Well, my dear husband has just said : 'Too many clothes again for a sauna ! ...What does he doing here, BTW ???'

The wall is the same as in 'The practical Joke'. I was experimenting some effects, and just stopped seeing at the result with the fading face.

He looks ghostly, as though he is already fading away even though the moment of his death is still moments away. I love this Severus. He's beautiful, and weary and sad, and determined and suspicious looking all at once. Amazing!

Vizen In reply to northangel27 [2008-09-04 22:50:17 +0000 UTC]

I know, for the ghostly effect - this is not in the book, even if he is already described as dead with his face as white as a Mask.

But it was better with the ghostly face than without. I am of course thinking about a full portrait here, but for today- I prefer let it like that

I'm glad you like this Severus. I like him too !!!
