Not exactly on purpose originally but visually it looked right and finally, conceptually it was right to. So that I didn't try to make it opaque.

Vizen, I've decided I love you best of all. Everything I see of yours, your Snape (of course) is so perfect. I love the scrubby, almost unfinished look to them (I hope you don't mind me describing it like that, I'm not sure if there's a proper artistic term for it *g*).

It appears that you have drawn Snape a bit transparent, was this intional. The work looks like its done in chalk pastels, so that may be the reason. I was thinking that Voldemort did not see SS as a person, hence you did it that way. Why do I get so weirdly contemplative looking at your stuff instead of just going SQUEE?
I love book illustrations.

Mmmh, you're right - I don't think about the full size usually - just because I'm personally subscribed and can see all the pics in a comfortable size without any click. 
About the transparency - it wasn't intentional first. I just added the background in my PSD file, and as the face's layer wasn't opaque, it gave the ghostly effect you can still see. I attenuated it (you can see the 1st version in my scraps) but I found it woulnd't be good if I completely colour Severus.
I hope you'll forgive me : I don't support the SS/HG pairing. But as you know, Hermione and Severus have many shippers among fanart makers and I hope you will fully enjoy the exchange !

Oh I don't mind that you don't support SS/HG. Some of my cosplay-art is Snape-Lily. I am also a Snape-Minerva shipper. I just havent posted those pics on deviant.
I am here because of HP fan art. If you are familiar with Snapecast, they "hired" me to do my costuming for Snapefest. So you could say I am Snape centric too.
Dang, it would have been cool to see a pairing pic. But I do understand your position. I have Snarry fans trying to get me to "kiss Harry" when I am in costume and so far I have not done that. LOL

Well. I usually prefer the Snape/Marauder pairings (well, Peter excepted), or the snarries. Of course I support the Sev/Lily story for the sake of the canon spirit. I like the Snape/Narcissa too but they are rare. Well, I'd say I'm quite open in the matter but please don't mention AD/SS and SS/GW, that's just too weird for me

Snapefest was a day long Snape symposium with Portus, an HP convention in Dallas.
I suppose my inner slashy Snape can see Lupin ( and I did Slashy SS/RL pics for a friend), but he hates Sirius, James, and can't abide by Harry. LOL

The fading effect, and that amazing expression, so understated, and yet there';s so much there - tension, suspicion, but also almost a little smile, like he's persuading...great job! I really love how you capture all the tragedy of Snape's story in your fanart, but this may be my favorite by you ever.

We see in the Prince's tale that in the end he's really cold and embittered, angry at Dumbledore. It's understandable... He certainly was really disillusioned and cynical about both sides... He clearly wasn't for the dark side anymore, though. Well, when he came to Dumbledore, for Lily's sake, he certainly didn't really care about right and wrong. But when in DH he still was completing his mission, even after he had understood that Harry would certainly die, for me he is really in the light side.

We don't actually know that, you know. We have no input on whether he was a convinced DE up to the point at which he realised Lily was in danger, or whether he'd been wishing he could get out of it for a long time but it was only Lily's danger which gave him the courage to make a move.
Nor do we know how long he was a DE for. We know he was one in early 1980 when the prophecy was made and that he ceased to be one in late 1980 or very early 1981, but we don't know how long he was a DE before the prophecy scene. It could have been three years or three days, although what little evidence we have suggests he probably joined in mid 1979 and was a DE for about 16 months before he defected.

No, not at all ! I even was expecting he won't die in the book, you know. I had an entire theory about it *rolling eyes*... I was very upset reading the scene - I couldn't understand Severus' behaviour - why is he stammering, what's happening ??? I thought - no, no, no...WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! Rowling made us think he's a Deah Eater during all the book and the chapter - and we can see him falling like a Death Eater ! In my head I was YELLINg : 'Wrong!' 'This is impossible!' He just CAN't DIE now, and that's all, finished !'
I was sure there was a mistake somewhere, that's it's not him, or something - but at the 'take it' and 'look at me', I was...Relieved. Victory!!! He is the best !!!!

Really an excellent face, and the simplicity & tension is so effective. I wish I had done this well with my S & V & N fluff, as I really tried, but this is a great example of 'Less is More'
