Description
Pattern page one: [link]Pattern page two: [link]
You'll need 1/3 yard of material, matching thread, and the usual sewing equipment (scissors, thread, etc). Machine not required - I sew everything by hand. This makes an 8-inch tall pony, but the pattern can also be enlarged or shrunk; adjust material requirements accordingly.
This is as simple as I can make the pattern and still have it look decent! Anyone who can knows the basics of sewing will be able to use this.
If you don't know how to backstitch or ladder stitch, there are several tutorials here on DA and on YouTube.

Mirroring the wings just means you flip over the pattern. If you're making a stuffed mane, I have a whole tutorial here: voodoo-tiki.deviantart.com/artβ¦

i used this pattern to make an earth pony it came out very nice. (its my first shot at making any sort of plushie lol) thank you so much for the pattern. i did have one question tho..how would i make the unicorn? i got a lil confused on how and if it ends up becoming a point in the end cause i worry if i sew on the outline it will become a box shape. o.o this is only my second attempt at making a plushie sorry if there stupid questions..

The tip of the horn looks boxy, but when you turn it right-side out the bulk of the seam will make it come to a point! And don't worry, there's no stupid questions

The material can be difficult to work with because it's so floppy and stretchy . . . Β you can try it though, it never hurts to experiment. I'd suggest using a lightweight interfacing, though, and a ballpointed needle.

You probably get this question a lot. But do you know how much (on average) the material and tools to make these cost?, since i really want to make one, but am a little low on money at the moment
π: 0 β©: 1
Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Turbo740 [2013-08-26 13:39:22 +0000 UTC]
It depends - I'm in South Africa so my prices won't be similar to yours. Fpr tools, at the very least you'll need a decent pair of sharp scissors (Fiskars is a great brand, not too expensive), needles (I use #8 and #10 quilting sharps). You probably already have things like a permanant marker to mark out the pattern, and a lot of stuff you can use is around the house - the eraser end of a pencil for a turning tool, or cardboard from a cereal box to draw patterns on. Stuffing comes in big bags but it will last you a while, and you need about 1/3 yard of fleece for the body, which will give you 2 or three ponies. The rest of the cost depends on how you're going to finish the pony. Will the mane be fleece, yard, or faux fur? How will you make the eyes and cutie mark? And so on.
Β Your best bet is to make a list of what you'll need and do some shopping around.Β Take a look through the gallery and look at some of the solutions other artist have come up with for ideas.Β

Draw2134 In reply to ??? [2013-08-26 01:22:36 +0000 UTC]
what do you think is the cheapest fabric you could find?
π: 0 β©: 1
Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Draw2134 [2013-08-26 13:34:06 +0000 UTC]
The absolute cheapest is muslin - but that's no good for making ponies. Your best bet Β is fleece - you need less than 1/3 of a yard, it's easy to find in stores, comes in a ton of colors, is pretty inexpensive and goes on sale pretty often. Keep an eye on the sales and coupons at your local fabric store. Also check their remnants bin, fleece is a popular fabric so it's easy to find remnants, which are usually less than a yard or ha;f yard, which is plenty for making a plush.

I am quite sure this has been answered already, (most likely a hundred times over, judging by the visible comments) but you do not mind if we sell plushies made with this pattern? If so, I'll be using this one until I get around to making my own...

Hi,
I am trying to make a life size costume MLP-Princess Luna for my four-year-old. I don't really know how to sew but youtube can be my best friend. Any tips on enlarging your pattern? Thanks for posting this as this has encouraged me to make this costume for this Halloween.
