Description
Pattern page one: [link]Pattern page two: [link]
You'll need 1/3 yard of material, matching thread, and the usual sewing equipment (scissors, thread, etc). Machine not required - I sew everything by hand. This makes an 8-inch tall pony, but the pattern can also be enlarged or shrunk; adjust material requirements accordingly.
This is as simple as I can make the pattern and still have it look decent! Anyone who can knows the basics of sewing will be able to use this.
If you don't know how to backstitch or ladder stitch, there are several tutorials here on DA and on YouTube.

Mmmmm.... I don't know how to make plushie pony toys, I wonder I would make five of these plush toys of twilight sparkle with diaper costume, her doll smarty pants, shining armor and their mother and father.

Do you mean a smaller plush, or a pony that looks smaller (like a foal)?

It really depends on how fast you sew. It takes me a couple of hours, but I sew very slowly.Β

I don't understand what you do with A6 at all.

A6 is the center of the back of the head where it meets the neck.

Make wings by attaching three appropriately sized round feathers to the back with fabric tacky glue and hiding the glue with a felt round or a rhinestone. I recommend hand washing for any hand sewn item.Β

I don't get when you cut out B1-B4? Wouldn't that just leave a hole in it's tummy? Please respond :L

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Mrepicj7777 [2013-07-09 11:29:10 +0000 UTC]
If you read the instructions, you'll see the plush is sewn inside out, so the seams are on the outside. Then you turn it right side out through that hole, and sew the hole closed.

Thanks for sharing the AWESOME pattern! But when do I put the wings in ? In the middle or at the end and how+which wire do I put in the wings to make it stronger?
π: 0 β©: 1
Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Aithusa308 [2013-07-03 11:15:19 +0000 UTC]
You can put them in after you put in the mane - that seems to work best for me. I don't use wire in the wings.

I use a flexible craft glue called E-6000 Quick Hold.

This is a great pattern thank you for sharing.
I noticed that most people make their ponies using minky or fleece. Will the final shape of the pony change if I use felt?
TY!

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to behappy1990 [2013-06-19 09:38:34 +0000 UTC]
It would - felt isn't a very good material to work with for several reasons. It doesn't stretch, so the pony will be skinnier, it will be harder to turn right side out, and the seams will be very visible. Also, most of the felt people have access to is that cheap craft felt (the stuff you get in sheets for a quarter), which is 100% acrylic and not pressed down very well. It's fine for some things, but not plushie making - the thread will actually cut through it, so the stitches will be very visible.
There are people who do amazing work with felt, but they use the wool/acrylic blend (which is harder to find, much more expensive and usually comes in dull colors as it's mostly used for suiting), or they make a deliberately "primitive" plush with stitches on the outside. It can give very lovely results, but this pattern wasn't really designed for it.
Fleece is probably the best choice. It's easy to find in stores, comes in a wide variety of colors, fairly easy to work with (I like using fusible interfacing on the back) and not expensive at all. Check your local fabric store's remnants section, or keep an eye out for coupons and sales and you can get enough fleece to make a pony for a few dollars.

Thank you for all the information. I am in a pickle a bit. Is it possible to use that fusible interfacing on the felt, to make the felt more durable?
I understand about the plushies, I am working on teddy bear made from cheap felt. It does not look the best. lol
True Walmart online sells no pill fleece for $5 a yard.
I found this pony made of felt online: [link]
of course, it could be wool felt.
Thanks for all the help.

The interfacing helps a little, but not a lot. Believe me, I've tried! LOL

IN the middle of the body, a bit towards the front.

My only suggestion is that you explain that the part of the head that need to be folded back needs to have the edges of the patters lined up by 'turning' the material at the corner, however you would explain it. This was my first plush project, and the way it is written would have resulted in a piece of the seam being inverted to the outside. my sewing knowledge screamed that this was not going to turn out well, so I clipped the corner so it could be turned properly and figured I'd see how it turned out. I've gotten so many compliments on it, I'm surprised! I am personally proud of it, because for my first project it came out very nice. Hand sewing it all, even the embroidered eyes, was a major pain though. But I will keep trying to improve my sewing machine skills to feel more comfortable to try it on there. Thank you for the wonderful pattern. My pony's chest and rear have a weird bulge from the underside opening, so I will adjust it on my own to smooth it out to my liking, but otherwise this is a wonderful pattern to use!

I want to learn to sew again, and I thought that after I learn the basics again, I'd love to try this. Perhaps when summer gets here I will already have my sewing machine up and running. Cute plushies by the way.
