Description
Pattern page one: [link]Pattern page two: [link]
You'll need 1/3 yard of material, matching thread, and the usual sewing equipment (scissors, thread, etc). Machine not required - I sew everything by hand. This makes an 8-inch tall pony, but the pattern can also be enlarged or shrunk; adjust material requirements accordingly.
This is as simple as I can make the pattern and still have it look decent! Anyone who can knows the basics of sewing will be able to use this.
If you don't know how to backstitch or ladder stitch, there are several tutorials here on DA and on YouTube.

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for making this amazing tutorial and patterns to go with it.
I've never sewn a thing in my life, and your tutorial was VERY easy to understand.
Here's the Pinkie Pie I made if you wanted to check her out. [link]
Again, thank you so much.

Where do you purchase your long pile faux fur for the manes and tails? I can not find anything but short.

There are several places that carry them online, but I usually get them from Ever After Fabrics on etsy because they sell small cuts.

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that I am currently working on a small "stallion" style plushie (red fleece so I guess it's going to be Big McIntosh) using your pattern. Overall it looks pretty simple (I'm at the turning stage, everything is already sewn up, but for some reason the head just doesn't look right to me. Is it supposed to be so spherical at the back? The ears basically end up near the "cheek" areas of the head, if it were a human head.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm not the worst at sewing, but it could be user error.
Aside from that, it's a nifty and quick to sew little pattern!

Could you note me with some photos of it? It'd be easier to see what's going on than from a description.

Sorry, I can't send a photo right now, but I will try to get a shot of it sooner or later. I have since decapitated the plush because I thought the body was worth saving, but right now I'm just kinda deflated about it altogether so I'm not sure if I'll even try to reconstruct it.

Ok. Don't feel too bad - if you could see the first plushes I made years ago, you'd think I was trying to sew holding the needle in my mouth. It's a learning process.

A learning process indeed. I've only been sewing for 3 months so I probably just have really high standards for myself, but it does get disappointing sometimes when you spend a lot of time on a plush and it ends up looking less than stellar.
Thanks for reading, I appreciate it. And thanks for providing free patterns!

If it makes you feel better, I somehow managed to sew the faces to the side body upside down yesterday XD Derp. I guess the moral of that is not to sew when you aren't feeling well!

Do you mean B2 and B2 when it says B3 and B2 when you start on the belly piece, right after you finish with the head.

I bought this from Ever After Fabrics on etsy, they sell them as small cuts that are the perfect size for ponies.

The dart on the belly pulls the legs in.

are the different types of stitches necessecary, or can you just do a usual stitch [running stitch?]
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Voodoo-Tiki In reply to BerryPunchrules [2013-03-07 00:26:47 +0000 UTC]
I use a backstitch to sew most of it, as it's stronger than a running stitch, and use a ladder stitch to close the turning opening.

How do you insert the mane and tail?

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to BerryPunchrules [2013-03-07 00:27:13 +0000 UTC]
With the fabric mane and tail here, I attach it after the plush is finished using a ladder stitch.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Voodoo-Tiki In reply to phoniexflame [2013-02-22 07:37:06 +0000 UTC]
Definitely fleece. You can find it at any craft store, it comes in a vast selection of colors, it's pretty easy to work with, and from my experience working in a fabric store it goes on sale very often (check online for coupons!) and there are usually a ton of end-roll cuts in the remnants section.
