Pattern page two: [link]

You'll need 1/3 yard of material, matching thread, and the usual sewing equipment (scissors, thread, etc). Machine not required - I sew everything by hand. This makes an 8-inch tall pony, but the pattern can also be enlarged or shrunk; adjust material requirements accordingly.

This is as simple as I can make the pattern and still have it look decent! Anyone who can knows the basics of sewing will be able to use this.

If you don't know how to backstitch or ladder stitch, there are several tutorials here on DA and on YouTube.

It works well at printout size, but if you enlarge it a bit it's easier to sew.

thanks for responding! How long does this take? My cousin saw me with a fabric and sewing needle and made a request, and she said she'll pay more if I make it in less then a week (I'm doing laying down bean bag plushies)

I made mine in about couple hours, but I sew verrrry slowly because I have shoulder problems. You can probably make a simple one like this in a day.

I got the mane & tail fur at Ever After Fabrics on etsy.com but there are all sorts of sites where you can find it. I happen to like them because they sell small cuts of fur which are just the right size for making a pony.

I'm sorry if I shouldn't be asking this, but I can't get my head around it.
On the belly pattern ([link] ) there is a upside down wine glass shape, do I cut it out and sew the sides of the gap? (ie: b1 sew to b1)
And why is that even there? I have very little experience with sewing...

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to FoxTone [2013-01-28 08:53:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, imagine folding the belly piece in half so B2 touches B2 and B3 touches B3. It's called the turning opening - you sew your plushie together inside out, so the seams are on the inside, just like with clothing, and when it's complete you turn it through this opening. Then you sew the opening closed.

The reason it's shaped like that is to draw the legs inward so the plush stands up firmly. Without them, the pony would lay flat. Usually this is done with a dart under each leg, but because this is a small, simple plush I combined the darts with the turning opening (you can see them in the other pattern, they're the half-circles on the legs where they meet the body).

how do you put on the wings if your using a sewing machine?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to MinecraftMusic75 [2013-01-23 05:44:03 +0000 UTC]

You'd still need to hand-sew them.

MinecraftMusic75 In reply to Voodoo-Tiki [2013-01-23 17:32:08 +0000 UTC]

ok how would I do that and at what point would I do it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to MinecraftMusic75 [2013-01-24 08:36:42 +0000 UTC]

It's done after you finish the body - you put them on with a ladder stitch. It's done similarly to this: [link]

I am doing every step, but when I turn the pony, the head and ears are always inside out (the nose and face are right side out, but the ears are wrong-side out and the horn points in the wrong direction. What did I do wrong?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to ThePrettyNerdie [2013-01-17 09:44:40 +0000 UTC]

You need to push them right side out with something, such as the eraser end of a pencil.

does the inside out thing work with other kinds of plushies?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Sukeiisu [2013-01-10 15:30:33 +0000 UTC]

You mean sewing it inside out then turning it? You should always do it that way, unless you're using felt and/or going for a "primitive" look. It's just like clothing, the raw seams should be on the inside.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to Honey-Hime [2012-12-12 11:45:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes, like the stuff index cards are made from. If you can't get any, you can trace the pattern onto a a manila folder, or light cardboard like from a cereal box.

I'll add that to my to-do list. It's basically just sewing on strips of fabric or simple shapes.
