I may be misreading this, but the heart beat was actually
kind of a nice little addition. I figured that is what the
thump was about? It really makes a person start to think
about not just hearing it, but also feeling it being inside
someone's stomach so close to their heart already.

Yep, that's what the thump was about. ^^ My heartbeat. There are so many sounds and movements the body makes that people can hear or feel in the stomach.
