Description Here you go with yet another mask! This time I show you a mask that was created by taking the broken parts of a red and a blue Kanohi Mahiki.

Red and blue split mask with yellow eyes...

Reminds me of the Japanese superhero Kikaider.

Astonishing. It'd be completely powerless, but I could imagine a matoran tribe wearing masks like this when they're completely cut off with no means of making new masks.

Or just some unfortunate Ta-Matoran who's too proud to change his face.

But your story might make more sense.

Thanks

Actually, when I think about it, it's something I would love to learn from Greg - a Matoran will fall unconscious over time if it doesn't wear a mask, but is there a requirement for the mask to be intact? If so, why did Jaller need to wear Lhikan's mask instead of waiting for his old Komau to be repaired?
...on that note, did Jaller get his job of Ta-Koro guard captain just so Vakama could keep an eye on Lhikan's Hau?

Perhaps the mask won't "connect" to the head unless it's complete. In Jaller's case, all of the villagers had just arrived on Mata Nui. I doubt they had the required tools at hand, and this way a repair might've taken too long.

Maybe Vakama just wanted to punish him with guard duty after Jaller threw him through the coliseum in the second movie (if you look closely, you can see him pressing the tiles).

Perfectly plausible, I suppose. Hm, I wonder if the Suvas on Mata Nui were built, or if they naturally formed on the island when it was created? (another tangent).

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that it was Jaller who pushed it. I remember making the observation long ago...which is pretty funny, really. It would make even humble Vakama seem like a bit of a sadist.
You know, in some ways it was probably a good thing the Matoran lost their memories - if they hadn't, it would have taken much longer for Vakama's team to convince them that they could be trusted after the fake Dume's little ploy.

Yet another tangent - what do you suppose it would be like for the Matoran Universe inhabitants coexisting with Spherus Magna inhabitants when they realise just how much longer their own lifespans are than the natives? I mean all the Glatorians we were introduced to are bound to die much sooner than say, Macku. Then again, the Matoran Universe inhabitants are very old themselves and are probably nearing the end of their predicted lifespans as it is. Without the Great Beings to help (which is asking a lot given that one of them is insane and the other is plotting to take over the world, with the rest remaining elusive for no good reason), they'd probably die off within a few hundred thousand years.
And on that note--no, I need to stop making new tangents

Good idea. We're not really talking about repaired Kanohi anymore, are we?

But to answer that last thing; I don't even know how old beings in the whole Bionicle universe can become. Bionicle always had those huge amounts of time passing between events, so who knows if the characters will ever die of old age? We're not even sure what they're made of. Or what part of them is organic, if any.

Sorry to revive an old comment chain, but my inner loremonger is killing me. A Matoran or Turaga without a Kanohi would fall into a coma and die. Although their Kanohi (specifically a Matoran's) are powerless, the power of the Kanoka used to craft them likely lingers, keeping a Matoran/Turaga's life force in check. A broken mask (Jaller's Komau, for example) wouldn't be able to properly channel its energy, so even a repaired Kanohi like this wouldn't function properly without a mask maker's help.

Well, when it comes to matoran universe inhabitants, presumably their brains are a mix of organic and mechanical. Maybe it's like Data's Positronic Brain from star trek. The movies suggest muscles being organic too.

Gooooooooooood. I really like the look that gives the combination of those colors! You should use them on some MOCs for test and advertising. For the undeads on Patriots? =3

BTW, Bionicle.com and bioniclestory.com are gonna be SHUT DOWN by the LEGO Group within the next weeks. You may want to do screenshots or whatever. Sad, isn't it?

It wasn't so much that you highlighted anything that impressed me its how you textured the surface to make it look like aged metal. How did you do that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vorred In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2013-05-24 17:01:07 +0000 UTC]

That was basically a side-effect. I primed the whole mask, and then used a normal red/blue color on the surface. Afterwards, I took some Citadel shade (black) to get shadows in all the little corners. Somehow, I wasn't that successful with it and some of the black liquid stayed and dried. Together with some errors of color I had to fix the interesting surface was made.

The magic is, like so many times, the shade

Okay...I understood only about the first half of that.

Well what ever it is you did here, do it again cause it looks freakin awesome! I know its personal choice, but I would have had a band of silver running length wise across that crack as well as the two you got there. But I nitpick.

Vorred In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2013-05-24 21:53:55 +0000 UTC]

Probably because it was some kind of painter-talk there

Well, I thought about that too. But somehow I was so happy with the design it already had I kept the whole thing this way. However, there are more masks to paint and many more things to try out
