How did u cooked the scrimps?
You could have opened up the scrimps to from the head till bout mid way (keep the tail intack) and place the opened belly over the rice.

I'm no expert, but this should help you (it sure did help me ):

They look great nonetheless If you don't like nori (just like me) you can always make maki (rolls) with a very thin omelette, or even with no wrap at all. You can also try with Nigiri-zushi, an art by itself, but worth the try

A great shot of a great dish, keep up the good work!!

Nice pic. If you don't like the Nori (algae/seaweed) then you should try Oshizushi, which is rice and your prefered ingredient/s pressed into a 'oshibako' (wooden oblong box) then as you take it out it is in a nice neat block shape. Wikipedia is a great place to learn...just type sushi

I really like the lighting and the texture in the wood on this one. The repetition of sushi is what wins this over for me. ^_^

if you're not afraid of eating raw fish, then maguro (tuna) is a good choice for nigiri beginners basically you take rice, some rice vinegar or sushi vinegar (which is a bit sweet as well as sour), and maybe some sesame seeds, mix it together, and make shapes like the one in the picture where the shrimp is standing up. then, if you like wasabi, dab some on the top of the long-ish rice balls. then take the fish, which is sold in japanese grocery stores in either blocks or sliced rectangular pieces, and lay a piece on top. and that's about it....there's also sake (salmon), hamachi (yellowtail), saba (mackerel), ebi (shrimp, but raw and butterflied so it can lie on top of the rice), and unagi (eel, and it's about the only cooked meat that's usually put on nigiri sushi along with crab). i like putting raw fish eggs on too (ikura)....they usually are either little orange squishy balls or bigger orange squishy balls. or...you could be creative and use what you have if you wanna do the ones with the seaweed on the outside it helps to have this little bamboo sushi mat thing to roll it with (cause it's a bitch to do without) but yeah...hope that helps

*giggles at many people's comments* You've attracted quite a crowd with tantilizing digital treats!!!

Mn... I'd like sushi- I'd also like to find my katakana sheet so I could read the text ya' wrote on them =Β°

*reads about the wasabi* I heard about a pea-size of that stuff is a painful experience on the tastebuds...

One thing confuses me though- don't worry, I'm not an overly politicaly correct person- and, I think your pic is great, but...

Aren't prawns brown- until you cook them? Or is it a different variety?

also have you ever tried to make sushi rolls with seseame seeds? that's good too! ^^

i have billions of ideas. i have sushi every night! ^^

i like the picture... nice lighting and angle but the sushi is just looking weird with the multiple shrimps and the lack of uniform of the rice... plus... what did you use to make the rice? if it's just plain rice then it's not sushi. most people get it confused on that part. sushi is the rice not really the beauty of it.

i actually had sushi once....i had to spit it out casue the water in the seaweed filled my wouth and i had to spit it out....and i thought the part i'd hate most was the fish lol. that sushi actually looks really good and the wasabi prolly makes it spicey but doesn't look like you have a lot on there so it wouldn't have been too bad. *munchs her doritos since she's hungry now* ok to the technical things nice angle and lighting and yummy looking food! yay!

Sushi looks good. Round out the rice a little more. If you do not like seaweed, then do not use it. Better for one shrimp per piece, try next time to do a butterfly of the shrimp. Although, looks great in the photo.

just looked at your "Sushi II"... interesting contrast between the two. The simplicity of "Sushi II" is elegant while the crowd in "Sushi" is pedestrian. Nice.

I don't have any specific advice on sushi preparation as I'm still learning. Check out the book Sushi by Ryuichi Yoshii ... not bad.
