Description NOTE: I realize these two concepts aren't "fully" iterated.. But I believe they are fairly common wishes to a large number of deviants, and I just wanted to make something tangible for the ideas.

Edit:
=meh1993 asked a couple of questions I feel could be addressed at large to help explain it.
I originally felt it was an intuitive Visual Suggestion, but perhaps clarification would help...1. Founder of the Group, would choose which class of admins had the privileges to access the Donation widget.
2. This WOULD be a "GROUP" widget, so it would be separate from your own personal Donation widget on your dA profile. It would likely have the Group name as the starter of the donation pool, not a specific user. It would probably be something you could link to on your own page, but it would not be a widget that you could put on your own personal page.I hope that helps answer any unresolved questions...

But if the group has its own donation pool, is it accesible by all admins? and also how would an admin distinguish it from their own point stash?
Otherwise, genius

VSConcepts In reply to meh1993 [2011-04-21 14:19:57 +0000 UTC]

To be fair though, yer second half - I didn't iterate it all that clearly. But yeah, it'd be separate. Because it'd be a widget on the Group only, not on your user profile. And it probably wouldn't say username started a donation pool, etc... It'd say the groupname started a donation pool.

Well that's easy. And obvious. The first part of your question I already answered, in the red text on the deviation/suggestion itself. The founder who sets what privileges each class of Admin within the Group has - would determine who had access to the widget. Secondly, by virtue of the fact that it's a Groups widget - it would be on the GROUP page. Which would make it a GROUP feature, not a personal one. Your own private widget on your user page would be entirely separate, the same way your Donation pool is separate and different from one that "I" personally used to keep on my profile page.

LOL@You.

I fully support both of these suggestions I see alot of accounts made just to collect points for a group, this one for example:

When I iterated this, I wasn't even aware that accounts like that existed. Shame really.

Group donation pools are a frequent request, many people would sure like that and it makes sense But, your suggestion doesn't tackle what I understood to be the main issue with them, legal reasons, similar to why you can't have lotteries; they represent money. How does an unofficial group of people own points?

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean that it's impossible to find a way - but if you're suggesting this, I think it'd be good to offer a solution to that too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VSConcepts In reply to namenotrequired [2011-04-02 11:04:24 +0000 UTC]

The easiest way to tackle legal issues is to make the Group's donation pool, a fund that is in the care of deviantART for the purpose of subscribing the Group. When the Group accumulates enough points to upgrade, a button which was whited out, would then become active again to upgrade. If the group wanted to spend points on a contest or as a reward for something to a member, they could note a particular staff member for permission. The staff member would read the request, go their Admin page (all Staffers have F4 capability), and authorize it. If the Group failed to doll out the points as they requested, then the ability to use them for contests could be removed. That way they could ONLY be spent on upgrading the Group (for a pre-determined amt of time). Yes, that means more work for the Admins, but it would be worth it to Hardcore Groups and their members.

I really like the idea of the donation widget for #Groups. My #Group gets way more activity than my user page, so I can get some better results if the donation widget could be on the #Group page.

Honestly, I thought this was a group feature, lol. When I started a donation poll, I looked for ten, fifteen minutes, just trying to find how to get it placed there. So this definitely should be considered.

As for the resizing thing, hmm...not sure I'm quite as charismatic about that idea. I personally don't even like the fact you can change the page layout, because I'd rather all the pages be consistent. I don't like going down my list of groups only to have to find where the 'Contribute' button keeps moving to...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VSConcepts In reply to vest [2011-04-01 00:06:18 +0000 UTC]

Why do you contribute that way? If you want to submit to a Group that isn't automatically on your "list" during the submission process to deviantART, then what you do is this:

Go to the deviation itself and on the right-side there's a "Submit to a Group" URL.

You can select from a list of groups you're in, or you can type on in by hand if it's not a Group you have any Admin privs in. Then you never even have to go to the front page of a Group to submit your work.

Glad you like the Donation aspect to this Visual Suggestion though. I dealt with that problem when our Group ran out of it's Super status and we had no way to really get donations. Fortunately a member paid the whole thing cuz she's awesome. But still, it struck me as a common problem with a simple-yet-elegant solution.

vest In reply to VSConcepts [2011-04-01 01:13:08 +0000 UTC]

That's the way I used to submit to groups, but I made way too many mistakes in the process (I submit to a lot of groups). After getting kicked out of two groups for constantly missing the rules, I amended my procedure so I can look at every group's rules before submitting. I'd rather be more safe and take my time with the contribution process.

VSConcepts In reply to vest [2011-04-01 01:19:56 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh. Well I tend to not have any of my work in more than 3 Groups at most, usually though just one or two. The DD I got is in a ton, but that's because it was a DD, and got invited by other people into the Group rather than me submitting it. I'm not one for "mass Group Spam" (aka "Group Whoring") that seems to be so popular these days.

BUT.. Given that you do like to submit to so many Groups at once, and each one seems to have different rules, it's no wonder you're so meticulous now in how you approach submissions.

Donate to Goup is great idea! I had to open a special account for the group donations, because currently we do not have donations' widget in groups.
