Description
Maybe you've read articles or journals about attempts to steal your dA username and password. The threat is real and I thought it wouldn't hurt to show what it's all about.
It starts with a comment or a note, which includes a link you are asked to click.
If you click that link, it takes you to a fake deviantART website, which looks a lot like the dA log-in page. There are two important differences:
1. The webpage link showing in the address field, at the top, is "[link] ".
2. The fake dA webpage has a "New Profiles" link besides the "Go" button.
On the real dA login page, the webpage link should start with "[link] " and there's no "New Profiles" link.
Please download the image to see all the details.
Note:
I use Mozilla Firefox as my internet browser and when I clicked the link to the fake dA website, it didn't take me there, instead it showed me a "Reported Web Forgery" message.
When I tried the same link in Internet Explorer, the browser happily took me to the fake dA website.

I have seen messages like this before on other deviants' pages, and wondered what it was. Now, I know not to click there if I was to get one of these, thanks for posting this.

Opera also says it is a reported fraud.
I don't understand Microsoft; it's almost as if they went out of their way to make things vulnerable and non-functional. There is no way this can be profitable. So far, even though it causes problems for Internet Exploder users, I have refused to make the HTML version of The Crud Factory the default, even though the XML version doesn't have any extra features.

Thanks muchly for pointing out the differences.
That in particular hasn't happened, but I definitely keep it in mind.
I have had my VS mistakenly tell my gallery was a "maliciouos page" a couple of times....
I've also ended up on some strangley redirected pages after just trying to view some deviations couple of times in the last few of weeks.
Oddly, backtracking & clicking the same links didn't re-create the error, so it's not something I could even report.

I've also found this advice (about noting affected people) in someone's journal/news (do not remember )
the sooner they will clean/fix their sccounts/pc's, the better for everybody

its funny that we all have a new (ugly) look on our sites and its a "great new look" and we dont have safety and security on DA

chemoelectric In reply to sweetpainter [2009-02-13 22:08:26 +0000 UTC]
Not just ugly, but hard to use. For example, I have no idea how dA selects which watch (largely unrelated) thumbnails to put on my screen. It's a sad joke.
