Description PLEASE NOTE: I have never posted full resolution files of the early TKP image art illustrations anywhere online until now. The full 400dpi resolution; original (as posted) with the 16:9 widescreen crop, the FULL image, clean sans cropping, just the characters, and the background art sans the characters are all available on my Patreon's 5 dollar tier (along with quite a lot of other works at full res):  www.patreon.com/posts/full-res…

Once more we have a glimpse into the settings of Theos, again on Indus. Here we have a pair of Sendai, to the left a Tappco toaster/radio head style sendai and to the right a Dies combat taedus (Telepathic Defense System). They appear to be discussing a plot of unknown purpose in an industrial passage on Indus.

The taedus would be part of a "Use System" partnership with a human owner. Generally what this means is the taedus is used for Police, military, or private investigations work as a living weapon and surveillance extension of the human partner. Usually these "use" arrangements (ownership by the human) are more free for the sendai than the typical domestic "Use" bond. The Tappco unit is probably indentured and slaved to it's owner so being out on it's own like this could mean several things, good or bad, for the human owner. Worse case is it killed it's owner. Tappco has a model line of sendai known for their blocky toaster/radio heads. This fella has a simulated Catalin/Bakelite material with brass fittings so it's a more aesthetically decorative sendai unit. The sendai in No Escape
vulnepro.deviantart.com/art/No… is clearly one of the same model types only that one is a combat model.

This piece was a lot of fun to work on and more will follow in it's suit. Atmosphere and unease are sometimes the sense one gets in Indus as it's a massive architectural labyrinth. The sendai are fully digital . I blew up a rough thumbnail guide and off I went.

Pencil rendered background. Digital ink and cell shades and color renders in Photoshop CS3

Very attractive and atmospheric illustration. As always, the literary accents are compelling and intriguing. I wish all animation cells looked this good. Great design contrast between the two cyborg models. Future & retro playing together like Laurel and Hardy. Or maybe more like Spike & Jet.

Good luck on your recovery.

*Now for my ubernerd comment: wouldn't these guys be communicating electronically, rather than vocally? Been reading up on some Shirow lately. He doesn't miss a single technical micro-fact.

As always my thanks for the kind words and rather insightful comments I'm happy this work continues to go over well and evoke the imagination as I'm still essentially dolling out little peeks and glimpses.

The cold is pretty much done for, only some lingering coughs now and then so I'm working on more to follow this piece

Indeed they can and do communicate in an technologically enhanced telepathic communication plenty but they tend to follow habit as well and communicate audibly amongst themselves as much as with humans (learned habit from being a major component of human society in this setting). I'll detail more of how the use system concept works and communications in future postings.

As more of the Basilea/Indus arc of Theos is revealed indeed it has huge theme of bio-mechanical combat machines working with humans that has some similarities to Shirow's material, after all the genesis of this project began in the early 90s when the Appleseed manga were popular. That said this has evolved into something very different and is not really fitting of the cyberpunk genre though it will have some parallel themes here and there. No question when I was younger Shirow was a big influence when he was in his prime.

XD Thanks man. Not really the style I'm developing but I suppose they could fit in that setting This is definitely a different beast than Star Wars though.

I can tell. The world that you've created sort of reminds me of Half-Life (for some unknown reason) (probably because of the whole... seemingly brainwashed humanity idea), moreso than Star Wars.

Yeah it's, I hope, unique but that can be a very difficult thing to attain in a world that is now globally connected with thousands of years of human history with telling stories. Everything has been done already essentially so it's all in the telling and the various mixtures of classic and familiar things. I find it more fun to explore things I don't see commonly with familiar themes so we'll see how that goes

Half Life was indeed rather cool and different, from what I have seen, but I have yet to play it

I was kind of skeptical at first, but now that I'm playing it, I'm SO impressed. I had no idea that it would be so amazing and well put together. I definitely recommend it.
Anyways, I have yet to read through ALL of the details on your world, but its very interesting. And your sense of creative design is just awesome haha. I look forward to seeing more.

I did play the demo for Half Life 2 and it was damn cool. Indeed I have heard nothing but good about the games so eventually I'll have to grab the Orange Box for my 360 I guess.

Thanks a lot man for the kind words, I appreciate all the comments I get, good or bad. It's been nice the work is going over well, DA is a good place to test ideas for something like this. This project is one of those labor of love endeavors so there's a lot of time put into it and a lot of material to look at in the gallery. Still what I have posted barely covers the scope of the thing.
