For the min-kin 's prompt of Lesson Learned. Zartan, featuring pinemartenartin 's Kismet.

It had been a rainy week, and the ground was rather moist. A lot of puddles had formed, and it was rather hard to make your way through the area if you wanted to keep your hooves dry. Zartan had found it rather impossible to do so, and had given up on trying to avoid the various wet spots scattered across the soil. He just walked through, seemingly amused by the sopping sound of his hooves sinking into the muddy earth, then being pulled out. He didn't quite enjoy the mud spatting up, though. "Bah!" he exclaimed as his hoof pulled along a splatter of mud which was sent flying into the air and hit right under his eye. "If only this stuff wasn't so cold."

Zartan then noticed another Minkin wandering near. It was Kismet, whom he had seen briefly before, but he had not yet acquinted himself with the fellow Minkin. Now he could have walked up to her and introduced himself. But seeing as Zartan was an absolute idiot at socializi- eh, seeing as how he liked to do things in an extraordinary way, that was not what happened. Zartan was always up for a little mischief, and so he snuck up to Kismet, slowly approaching as he kept an eye on the puddles near her. He saw one right next to Kismet. "Perfect", he thought. "If I keep sneaking up carefully, then suddenly charge and take a leap right into that puddle as she stands there... Oh boy, this will be great." He snickered at the thought of Kismet covered from head to hoof in mud, and moved closer.

Finally, he thought it was the perfect moment for his charge. So suddenly, he jumped up, and started running forward. Kismet did not seem to notice. He looked at her absent-minded expression in triumph, and was about to make the leap to the puddle, as his hoof was janked away from under his body, as if he had stepped on a bar of wet soap. The next thing he felt was a great splash and the sensation of cold mud entering his nostrils. Coughing and snorting and shaking his head violently, he struggled to get up immediately, and failed multiple times as his hooves kept slipping away on the muddy mess. He didn't even hear what the other Minkin said - or did he try his best not to hear anything? - and he escaped in a hasty trot, slipping and stumbling and with a blurry vision, trying to get the bits of mud out of his eyes and nose.

Kismet was too stunned to follow him, and just watched him leave with a mix of astonished and worried feelings. Then, as she realised what had just happened, and she saw him move away so hastily yet clumsily, she couldn't hold back a laugh. The poor rascal had failed to execute his prank, and was the one who ended up filthy and wet instead. Lesson learned? Probably...
