Description Yeah... I couldn't leave these guys in my memory without ever drawing any of them. And another tl;dr ahead. You're welcome.

(Silver had completely lost her lighter fur upon reaching adulthood, and Wombat gained a cut in his ear because of unknown causes I suspect Fred)
We only had them for a year. Yeah, unfortunately, they're all gone now. :c

Fred was released in August because of my dad. He hated the animal because he kept escaping (sometimes dragging the others along) and catching a rabbit is a pain, let me tell you. Especially in a garden with hedges that a rabbit can go through while a human cannot. He kept destroying my father's plants and vegetables and nothing seemed to make the cage rabbitproof. Basically my father told me that if I didn't want to release him, he'd do it himself and if he ever saw the rabbit in the garden again he'd kill it on the spot. He wouldn't let me try keeping him anymore and I couldn't find anyone who wanted to take in a rabbit that kept escaping. And no, I wasn't a supporter of that plan either, but I had no choice.
And yes, I still regret it. There's no need to keep pointing out how wrong and unfair that was. I'm not dumb and I'm not heartless either.

The other three didn't really escape anymore after that (or maybe they did, but I can't remember... yeah, they probably did). That is, up until a week or so ago. I wasn't even there, I was in Italy. My sister was told to feed the rabbits, but she left the door open. So yeah, surprise... they escaped. Duh. Can't blame the rabbits for that.
They managed to catch them after a really, really long hunt. And then they were fed up with them. So instead of just PUTTING THEM BACK WHERE THEY BELONG SO THEY COULD JUST GO ON LIVING THEIR LIFE INSIDE THE ENCLOSURE AS THEY HAD DONE FOR MONTHS, they released those as well.
They didn't even bother to tell me until I came back from Italy, and I thought it was a joke at first. Until I saw the empty space in the garden where their shelter used to be.
Gah.

They will probably be the last pets I've had. At least for now. My mom said that if our financial situation ever gets a lot more stable than it is now, she wants to get a puppy, but honestly I don't think that's ever going to happen. I'll have to wait until/if I get to move out. If I ever get enough responsibility and money... I don't see that happening any time soon either.
I often wonder how they are doing today. Are they still alive? I know, "THE FOREST OMG THAT'S PREDATORS AND WEATHER THEY WON'T SURVIVE ONE DAY" but really, this is Belgium. We don't have any big predators except for the fox, and there are no foxes in this area. As for the weather, these were outdoor rabbits, all year long. Plus the place they got released into was really close to houses. I can see them just crawling into someone's backyard. Anything could happen
I just wish all of this hadn't happened sometimes. Even if that had meant not adopting them.

My mom said they don't really look like rabbits in this, more like cat-dog-rabbit mixes. Whoops. Made with deviantART muro .

Aw, Spits... *hugs u* I kinda know how you feel there :/ losing a pet (or several in this case) is always painful. We've had four cats altogether and lost two of them. One died a sudden, horrible death and the other went missing. I still miss both of them an awful lot.
Have some more hugs now, you need them:
Other than that, this is a really sweet picture ^^

Aww, I see D: Yeah, we've had rabbits before these four, six of them to be exact, and we lost them all (one ran away and the others died of old age or things like that). It was painful too, but it's a different kind of pain, since these critters here didn't HAVE to go. They could've lived, but I had to let go of them, knowing that it was a bad thing to do. I guess that's what hurts the most.
c: Thank you.
And thanks c:

I still is completely wrong and unfair, would they rather have them try and survive in the wild, or live a longer life in captivity?
And you drew them beautifully c: they're so adorable ^.^ I don't know why your mom would say they look like dogs ;o;

They just wanted to get rid off them, unfortunately. I wish this hadn't happened, I was willing to spend my own money on them but my parents never let me.
Thank you c: I don't know either, I guess I just need to practice more or something?

How can your family be so cruel? I can understand the frustration, but that is just a downright mean thing to do

They look perfectly liker rabbits to me, your mom just probably wanted to deny it because she doesn't want to admit she did something wrong. I'm so sorry that you had to lose them like that, but I'm sure they're all happy running around in people's yards. Who knows, maybe a little girl picked one of them up and named it Candy?

You drew them wonderfully c:

Thank you

This picture is so lovely, they look like rabbits to me. <3

Unfortunately they will be dead by now, though, domesticated rabbits can not survive at all in the wild. The instincts that wild rabbits have are not present in domesticated bunnies, the generations of breeding in captivity would have caused them to lose most of their survival instincts. And besides, the oldest rabbits live to in the wild is oh.. maybe 1 year? Usually only a few months. I know it isn't your fault, as your dad "released" them, but I do have to make a point here.

You say that the biggest predator you have are foxes; foxes hunt/kill/eat rabbits. Although you say you haven't seen any foxes in your area, they will be everywhere. My boyfriend's mother "accidentally" left two rabbits out until 11pm one night recently, they were mauled to death by a fox, one was missing his head. And they were enclosed in the garden, as well, so I guarantee yours have all been killed by now. u__u;;

That was very cruel and disgusting of your father to release them, he clearly knows nothing about rabbits to do such a stupid thing. If they weren't torn apart by foxes, then a cat or dog could have easily killed them, or a car, or simply the cold. In a hutch they have some cover at least, out in gardens.. Ugh, nothing at all, they probably froze seeing as the weather is still cold. I just feel sorry for the poor bunnies, if you hadn't have adopted them, they could have lived at least. It is just so freaking.. ugh, nasty, of your father to threaten to kill the rabbit that kept escaping and eating his plants. Rabbits naturally dig and eat plants, keeping them in a hutch with grass at the bottom is no way to rabbit-proof their enclosure, you should have gotten a proper hutch with no access to grass or you could have kept them on concrete.

It would have been so much kinder to take them to the vets and have them euthanised, rather than sentence them to certain death at the hands of a fox or other dangers I said earlier. This should be considered animal cruelty, your father sounds like a disgusting human being. No offence.

Sorry for the rant, the things some people do to rabbits is just.. Horrible.

Thank you. c:

Yeah, you're probably right. I just can't help but wonder how they were doing when they were there, whether they suffered a lot, and how long it took before they died, even when it's kind of painful to think about.

What I find the worst is the fact that I was willing to buy another cage with my own money, something completely closed, to keep Fred in and put that next to the other one so he could still see the others but not fight with them (I suspect him being the cause of Wombat's torn ear) or drag them along when escaping. But I didn't even get the chance to do so.
The thing about our hutch is that under a layer of ground, there was this thing that was meant to kept them in, but near the end Fred just managed to climb/jump out in some crazy way.

And it just feels awful that when I trust my parents to take care of my pets they just throw them out after something that wasn't their fault to begin with. If they had put them back, nothing would've happened. They just used it as an excuse for finally throwing out something that had bothered them before. And they just assume "they are happier in the wild since they keep escaping". Yeah. Sure.

I don't want to get another pet while I'm living here. At least not something like a rabbit or rodent. I don't trust my parents with them anymore and I don't want this to happen ever again.

One of my friends has had...about six rabbits-four and then two. The first four-Snowflake, Caramel, Thumper and I forgot the last one's name so I'll call her Toffee-they had four about two or three years and one for each of the family. His mum had Caramel, his dad had 'Toffee' , his sister had Thumper and he had Snowflake. Caramel had to go the vet to get something that was killing her removed-I forgot what exactly-after two years and she didn't make it. Then, one day about a year later, a fox came into their garden and jumped on the hutch, causing part of the roof to fall in. Snowflake was nearly cut in half by part of the roof but managed to get out of it, dying from the shock afterwards and Thumper and 'Toffee' were trapped in the hutch and died from the shock of the roof and that they saw Snowflake die through this one gap in the hutch. He and his dad just walked into the living room-which has a giant window on one wall that you can see straight into the garden-just as the hutch collapsed, they saw the fox run off afterwards as well.

After quite a few emotions and about a year, they got Snowbelle-like a girl Snowflake-and Spots, spots is being really hyper and aggressive to Snowbelle though so they've had to split them apart so she wouldn't get hurt. My friend still has a keychain with a picture of Snowflake on though, because that was his rabbit, that says on the back: R.I.P-Snowflake

I see. c: We've had rabbits before we got these four, too, and they had completely different personalities. They never escaped, were quieter, easier to pet, ... They were literally a family as they got little baby rabbits, too cx Man I loved those animals. Especially one of them, his name was Vlekje. He was one of the two first rabbits we got (the other being Stampertje) and they were the parents of the little ones (Plouche and Pluisje). We've had two other rabbits too (Strubbeltje, who ran away at some point) and Witje, a Polish rabbit. Plus some guinea pigs at some point. Fun times. I still miss them, we've had them for a long time but they all died because of old age or stuff like that.
