Description
Here is my influence map ill quickly explain what and why these inspire me. (sorry for any spelling, and grammer errors)From the top left
Dues Ex: Dues ex games have always amazed me with their immersion and it’s art direction is a big part of this. The hyper-capitalist future has always interested me.
Dragon Ball: I never used to like Dragon Ball, but when they introduced Super Saiyens I was hooked. There is just something fucking awesome about powering up to more and more insane forms and Dragon Ball z showed this in its best form.
Christopher Nolan: This guy’s movies are phenomenal and for me, define what I look for in a film. His newest one Inception reminded me so much of my own thoughts that it blew my mind.
Mass Effect: Screw star wars Mass Effect is the best futuristic world I have ever seen, from the believable history to the uniqueness of each planet the story and Art Direction of Mass Effect is outstanding. There is good reason why Mass Effect 2 is the best RPG in existence.
Ishikei: Soft blending erotica so heavily rendered yet so delicate, a huge inspiration in the echii side of my art.
Blade Runner: What can I say again I love futuristic cities and Blade Runner is the father of it all. Also the story and the question at the end has definitely inspired me.
Myst series: The Myst series specifically Riven has really inspire me with it’s fantastic environments and sense of personal exploration.
Frank Frazetta: Illustration exists the way it does now because of this guy. Everying he does is perfect just makes you want to stare at his art
Ken AkamatsuL Ken’s Manga Love Hina was my first real Manga and boy did it change my outlook on comic book story telling, From his cute characters and his passion for love he is definitely someone to look up to.
Highschool of the Dead: Now I usually hate anything to do with zombies, but HOTD gets around the boring stereotypes by having a lot of echii to fill the gaps. So what you get is a sexy, violent, and mature tale about the end of the world.
Vegabond: Takehiko Inoue known for Slam Dunk, Lost Odyssey, and Vegabond is a huge influence on rendering quality in line work for me. He has such realistic characters that somehow are hugely unique to eachother. I would love to be half as good at making realistic characters as him.
OH GREAT: Prob one of my biggest inspirations Oh Great! Is a master of line art and manga. If you look through ir gear not a single scene is boring, even scenes where it is just two people talking they will have something going on in the background to make the page stand out. From the symbolism, tocharacter designs, to the way everything flows OH GREAT! Really is the master of manga.
Duke Nukem: The pinnacle of all manlyness Duke Nukem. For the small few that don’t know who he is, In Dukes world he is the last man alive and he has token over a lot of the planet, and now aliens have invaded and started abducting women. This is serous shit ALIENS ARE STEALING OUR BABES. From his design to the whole feeling of the games Duke is my major inspiration for manliness.
Jet Set Radio: prob the funkiest art style I like. Jet set radio is like a punk music video moving in realtime. From when I first played it on dreamcast till now I still feel its flow and rhythm pulsing in my art.
Gurren Lagann: Evolves from people living underground to throwing galaxies like ninja stars. Will and the power of ones own passion is something that I want to be shown in my art and my future comic.
Red Juice: This guy has an amazing blend of digital painting and 3d art. Also the way he paints hair is really inspiring to me.
Imperial Boy: If anyone has influenced me for world design it is definitely this guy. His citys are so ful of life and reflect his childhood growing up in hong kong. He puts so much work into these he deserves any kind of praise he gets
Berserk: Guts journey of gaining everything and loosing it is one of the best I have ever heard. Guts is the kind of character you just feel for by thinking about his past. He goes on unfazed even after loosing everyone he ever loved, and going to hell. The art is insanely rendered and is my major influence for horrifying scenes.
Sonic: I grew up with sonic, he was just so much cooler than Mario and the character designs really struck a cord with me.
Ugetsu Hakua: Some of the coolest character design ive ever scene for girls.
Ninja Gaiden/DOA: the style ofthese games I have always been attached to, Bloody and beautiful, I love the sense of panic in a fight.
Shin Megami Tensei: The most impressive JRPG series ive ever seen. The art and story of these games especially persona deeply inspire my story telling and monster design.
Great Teacher Onizuka: My favorite Manga of all time GTO is the story of someone you wouldn’t normally think of as being a hero to the point where he is wisest person you can think of. They say ignorance is the beginning of wisdom and this manga shows that.
Huke: Huke is one of the few major fans of Xbox 360 in japan and it shows he was able to make cute bad ass with Black rock shooter and that is something few people can do.
Tron: again I have an obsession with darkness and bright lights so you cant have an inspiration chart from me without it.
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo: The random insanity of this manga has inspired my humor side to no end.
Art Germ: his painting and how clean it is just blows my mind apart. I would love to be half as good as this guy at making beautiful illustrations.
Hyung-Tae Kim: His digital painting looks like a bloody oil painting, the character design and pose design dear god nuff said
Takeshi Obata: Known for Death Note and Bakuman. This artist draws some of the coolest hair ive ever seen. Im also impressed by his ability to stay up to date with fashions. His art style is unforgettable.
Rembrandt: Thank you art school because before it I never knew who this guy was. He is my main inspiration for detail.
There is many more artists I could not fit on this list that inspire me.
