Even with her belt unbuckled, her jeans unbuttoned and unzipped, Juno's pants still felt constricting. That could have something to do with the ridiculous amount of muffins she just ate. Buying discounted day old bakery items in bulk was one of her budget stretching tricks that tended to also stretch out her wardrobe. She looked over the mounds of her crumb covered chest to see that her stomach had bullied its way out of her T-shirt. It sat there, defiant, round and full and heavy, pressing her hips into the loveseat.

Juno was long past sated, but she reflexively fished around in the shopping bag for the last surviving muffin. Ooh- cranberry with streusel topping. She took a bite and exhaled, head hitting the armrest. It was sweet but unsatisfying. There were bigger problems that she couldn't cure with a binge band-aid.

So what went wrong today? She supposed that it was flattering to be asked for her autograph, but it had caught her off guard. By the time he asked if she was doing anything later, she had clammed up completely. Still, she could have managed to squeak out some kind of reply. She definitely did not have plans. He was cute. The answer could have been yes; should have been yes.

Instead, she had panicked, and now she was stuck staring at the cracks in the plaster ceiling of her cheap apartment, weighed down by a full belly and a heavy heart. Juno went to take another bite of her muffin and realized it was all gone. She had to settle for sucking grains of sugary streusel from her fingertips. "Next time," she solemnly informed Jupiter, her sleeping cat. "Next time for sure."
