In a mostly automated confectionery, the robot workers have gone rogue.

In a typical corporate low-ball maneuver, Smack Kakes called Zeela to their confectionery for "routine robotic maintenance." But the situation on the bakery floor was far beyond routine. This was chaos: mass malfunction. This was going to cost Smak Kakes a pretty penny.

Zeela was dreamily thinking about exactly how much she could inflate the bill when two pairs of white gloved hands grabbed her from behind. Oh god- they got her. "Put me down! Let go!" She struggled and squirmed, but the robotic arms that held her flexed, extended, and contracted to keep her as level as a tray of cupcakes. Resistance was futile.

"STOP FUSSING." 4's response came in the loud, tinny monotone dictated by Uncanny Valley laws.

OK, OK. She needed to be calm. Zeela knew that she was the only human in the automated factory, so the phone in her pocket was her sole way of getting help. As nonchalantly as possible, she retrieved it and was bringing it closer to her face when it was plucked from her grasp by 12.

12 crumpled up the phone like an unwanted post-it note. Shards of glass and aluminum and hope fell to the floor. "YOU NEVER CALL ANYMORE."
