My opinion is that she's talking to her pint-sized, magical animal sidekick from her childhood that only she can see or hear (He's in the picture, we just can't tell.).
Sadly, it would be wise for such childhood companions to pack up their bags and leave before the kid hits puberty. If you've seen that Robot Chicken sketch with Punky Brewster and Glomer in it, then you know what kind of disaster could happen.
