Description
The corset is custom-made and fully-boned. It is completely functional, and is overlaid with 4 sheets of dragonscale chainmaille (1 front, 1 back each side). Since this weave is very dense the sheets ended up 1/4" thick! Combined with all the layers in a corset, it becomes nearly 1/2" thick in places.I wanted a very clean look for this corset, so I hand-stitched faux boning channels to secure the maille and hide the raw edges. This was the most time-consuming and frustrating part of the process, as it was very difficult to cleanly pass a needle through 5 layers of cotton and 1/4" of dragonscale. Close-up view
The rings I used were 16g 3/8" and 1/4" aluminum, nearly 5000 total. Even with the relatively light weight of aluminum, this corset still weighs over 5 pounds.
It took about a year to complete, and at least 200 man-hours - probably longer but I didn't keep track. 2/3 of the time was spent attaching the faux channels. Throughout the year there was one muslin fitting, one final corset fitting, and 3 fittings to be sure I wasn't going to stress the chainmaille once the corset was cinched.
The skirt, also custom, is a wool-blend fabric with color-matched satin lining. It doesn't happen too often, but in this case the color matched the rings *perfectly*. The styling is very simple, hanging straight from the hips with a dramatic slit at the side-front seam.
The matching jewelry is a pair of half-persian 3 in 1 earrings, and what turned out to be a very elaborate choker with a single spike in the center (more on the choker here)
I'd definitely like to try other ways of meshing corsets and maille, but I will probably never do it again in dragonscale because of the staggering time needed.

''I can see now why he can make it so fast, it's simple, elegant and stylish, not your average chainmail stuff''
Sorry, just had to quote my partner (he has an account on here, and makes jewellery too -- TheMadTopHatter)
He's not on here often so I thought I'd tell you for him

WOW, omg I'm overexited now, can't wait for it to arrive! When I was bored today I kept thinking ''omg omg omg, he could be making the choker at any minute now'' (yes I'm sad LOL)
Thankyou soooooooo much for all this, the updates, the conversation, the information, and the custom offer to remake it in silver!!!
Can't thank you enough.

I love it! It's a very unusual idea that works so well! I believe you that it's heavy; I mean, even normal metal bones corsets are sort of heavy, and so is maille... but it's wonderful!

youΒ΄re absolutely mad.............I can relate
to be honest I donΒ΄t like the design too much......I find itΒ΄s a bit too simple and it canΒ΄t cope with the technical aspect..........I talk specipically about the upper egde (waist and hip is absolutely perfect); maybe itΒ΄s just the photograph, but it appears too *flat*, too *bold*, too *rough* for the female curves and the delicate skin

Thats amazing! Just the way the maille and the fabric work together. I've never seen corsets like this before, just pure maille, so this blew me away

that's why I wanted to try this to begin with - after about a month into it I realized why I haven't seen something like this before either! It's a good thing I'm insanely stubborn since that's what it took to finish it

I honestly cant think of words to describe just how great I think this piece is. I've been watching you since you made the Pink and Turquoise corset which I fell in love with, and you just did it all over but a million times better. Your work is fantastic and I cant wait to buy more from you. I just wish I could buy this corset
Fantastic
Instant fave.
