Description
You would not believe your eyes, if ten million fireflies...EDIT (AGAIN): Yes, it seems like I'm never satisfied with this one...I created a few grass brushes to use, changed some of the fireflies, edited the Umbreon's color, thinned out the shooting star, added a "mat" border and signed the bottom
5/10-9/10 EDITS: this piece has gone through many edits/revisions, the look of fur on the Umbreon, the stars, background, size of the moon, placement of fireflies, various image darkenings, and lots of tiny tweaks. I think I'm finally happy with where it stands now
This is the digital updation/rendition of the previously markered Firefly Night wakerra.deviantart.com/art/Fir…
after the the whole move and loss of photoshop, I did regain Paint.net, but its rather....limited for my taste. though I have wanted so badly to regain PSCS4, my bullheaded-ness finally succumbed to my impatience and I'm currently working off of Gimp. thankfully it has the splatter brush and polygonial lasso effects.
Everything in this picture was hand done, except for the encorperated bit of a background, that picture's original can be found here www.andrewgoss.net/images/Rock…
On a side note, if you like this picture, I have a newer shiny picture I made here wakerra.deviantart.com/art/Fro…

SHINY FIREFLIES!
This whole piece is gorgeous and very well done. And the method you used coloring the Umbreon makes it look fuzzy~ The neck might be a tad too long, but I'm very impressed with the anatomy overall. Oh, I also noticed that the raised paw has a very similar pawprint to a bear's ... were you going for that? It's really interesting. :3
Heh, I lost my PhotoShop when my computer tried to kill itself, but I finally was able to download it again. Do you want the link? It's CS4.

a link for cs4? the only downloads I've seen are trials, bout a months worth. either that, or a heck load of money to buy it. as much as I would KILL for a copy of CS4, my current computer is unable to handle the program TT^TT currently saving up to get a new computer. in the mean time, it appears GIMP is well suited for this one.
a bears paw? um....not really, no...I was thinking cat paw if anything. I guess it is kinda big? and figuring out proper anatomy took a good year for it to click but refrences can help too.
my method of shading mostly consists of splatter brush, its easier for me to lay down the color and even it out. after I get the shading and stuff where I want it, I'll either texture the layer with the built in filters, blur them, or use a smudger depending on the look I want. if I had CS4 the umbreon would look more "furry" because of a specific blur brush I used on past pictures, GIMP on the other hand, is a little lacking in areas...I did smudge the picture, but only with the soft circle brush.
and yes, very shiney fireflies

Nope, mine isn't a trial, doesn't require a code, and is free (and didn't give me a virus XP). But Gimp is probably fine (never really used it ^^)
Actually I thought it was a bear paw from the toes. Bear paws are more straight-across like the umbreon's, and cat pawprints follow the main pad more [link] ^^
Nice idea ... splattering might be a fun technique to try sometime. Especially since I use pretty much the easiest way possible to shade by using burn and dodge. >w<

splattering takes time and patience, but for me I find it very useful to pinpoint where I want the color to go etc. unlike dodge/burn, splattering for me you need a whole mix of colors to shade/highlight with. I start with the basics of one or two, then blend inbetween and add to the pallet as needed. when I splatter I don't run the brush across like you would with normal brush head options, I tap (or click if you have a mouse) the brush across the area, changing the size and opacity as I go to get the right feel. it allows me to pinpoint where I want the color, as well as spread it evenly across the area, that, and CTRL+Z takes away tiny mistakes easier as well it can get a pretty cool effect if you leave it be, but I usually tend to blur/smudge when I'm done to blend it all together. I will say that I've figured out how shading/highlights works from using the splatter brush, especially with wrinkles. the way the colors tend to form on the canvas can sometimes give you suttle hints of effects that look good, then I just add to them and BOOM! a wrinkle formed!
I do seem to remember that a cats paw is more pointed, kind of like a human's fingers....I should have figured as much since I have a cat DX
totally free? the whole version?? and its the official CS4, right? if you could shoot me the link in a note then so I'll still have option to it when I upgrade my computer would be muchly appreciated

Wow, that was a really in depth response ... thanks a lot! I'll play around with the splatter brush sometime and see if I can get the hang of it like you mentioned (because showing by your picture, it gives off a really cool effect
). But yeah, thanks again for all the details. :3
Yeah, they're a bit more like fingers if you think about it ...
Sure thing!

sorry, I know it was a little big, but there was a lot to cover. if you ever have time watch my stream, I could cover more that way and you can really see what I'm talking about
