UPDATE: Uploaded in better quality to make up for my absence of new art.
Tribute to Sonic Universe issue 50, my favorite Archie Sonic comic of all time.
I heard some people like the way I draw Shard so what ended up as a simple doodle became this piece. Coloring in the old way is more fun and challenging in the new way too though this can be taken back by coloring backgrounds.
(I'm also aware of the imminent end to Archie Comics' run on Sonic so I'm no stranger to the situation. I hope only for the best and may the book be remembered and read by all its fans, new and old.)Β

For those of you confused about this robot. He is not a look-a-like robot of Shadow. He's actually another Sonic robot. I guess you can say he's a successor from Metal Sonic. Β It's Β been a while since I've read any of Archie's Sonic comics and so I forget his name. But he should be a Mecha Sonic [Metallix or something like that, Eggman created loads of them to defeat sonic along with Metal but Shadow was around and helped out in defeating them.] that gained his own ego. If I'm not mistaken, this is the Ego that was once in a certain Metal Sonic that they thought was destroyed but implanted his ego in this version of Sonic Robot, the Mecha Sonic.

And hopefully the comics continue to run- luckily SEGA is talking with Archie and trying to work things out, but dang, I'd hate to see it go. :/

SU #50 is your favourite issue? Really? It was pretty much your typical face-off between a good bot and a bad bot; there wasn't anything larger at stake here. I can only see you holding this in high regard if you're a huge fan of robot hedgehogs.
Still, it's an awesome rendition of Shard's battle with Metal Sonic. It conveys plenty of action and energy to do the scene justice, and I especially like the way you shaded the smoke trails. I seldom see that level of detail applied to the effect, but it gives the smoke plenty of volume and contrast. There's also some slick metallic reflections on the bots. Classy stuff.

To make a long story short, Archie has all but announced they're cancelling it due to a combination of low sales and Sonic not being 'Archie' enough. As in, an actual Archie comic with Archie, Jughead, Betty&Veronica, etc. They haven't officially said any of this, but the rumors, apparent leaks from people connected with Archie, delays with no end in sight, and near complete lack of any substantial news or announcements from Archie all points to this being the case.
Now, that doesn't mean this will be the end of the Archie verse. Some other publisher might pick it up at some point, and someone's already working on an online continuation of the old continuity. But it's still a freaking shame.

I have no idea who the black one is, but this is one hell of a cool pic!
INSANE coloring on the robots! It may seem simple at first glance, but the shininess on the metal is rendered amazingly well. Great work on the perspective, the energy beams, and the smoke trails as well! Everything has so much movement.
All-in-all this is an excellent image that deserves a triple A!
