There was a lot for Matthew to catch up on while he was in the mental hospital, The pharmaceutical company that experimented on him was taken apart after everyone knew what they did. What became of his old friends was not really known beyond that they were simply alive. If they were not there when he left, he could only assume that they had moved on with their lives.
"So, what will we be doing with our life now?" Brian asked, "We may be broke again, but we are resourceful."
"I'm thinking we tak up some simple work. Mak'in stuff." Lass said, "Buildin' jus sounds better thae burnin' everything to the ground."
"Maybe start as some manufacturing job? maybe?" Matthew nodded as he walked, "They're not that hard to get into, are they?"
"It's one of the easiest jobs you could get as a low skill worker..."

Matthew spent over a year, working for a company assembling furniture and making the specific parts. But, in the middle of his second year, Matthew left it to try and make his own small business, a simple workshop as part of his house where he would make and sell his own things. It didn't take off right away, but Matthew was soon able to pay his bills again as he just kept at it and improved his work.

There came one day, a knock at his door, He was met by a pair of woman who may have been around his age. one looked like a lioness, and the other a hybrid of a deer and a wolf.
"It's gotta be, It's gotta be them?" Brian said from Matthew's head, "Ask them, it couldn't hurt."
"Are... are you..." Matthew's voice was shaky as he was holding back tears, "Are you special?"
They both smiled to him, and with waves of their hand showed their true forms. A rakshasa lady and a very fluffy dragoness.
Matthew smiled with teary eyes and run to them hugging Kari tightly, "I missed you so much."
"I missed you too, Matthew." Kari hugged him back, "We would have come sooner, but we were worried."
"I understand" Matthew said, and looked to Sera next, "It's very good to see you again." Then he looked around, "Where are the others?"
"Tori and Jake?" Sera said, "I'm sorry to say, but neither of them want to be here. After what happened, they just want to stay away from you?"
Matthew's ears lowered and he looked down, "I... We understand that." he looked up to them, trying to regain his smile, "I'm still happy you both came to see me. You really are some good friends."
"So... What about the others?" Kari asked, "You even said 'We' a few times."
"Yeah, Brian and Lass are still in my head, Medication helps with The First, but it's been mellow for the most part."
"Really? Does it ever come out?" Sera said, confused.
"No, Not really anymore." Matthew said, "I see him once and a while, and often take my pills. That's about it... I think it just starts to calm down more. I think it got what it was after and is only there if it happens again."
"Like if you're in trouble?" Sera said, "Like in the past?"
Matthew just nodded, "But it's been over a year since then, It's getting really calm."
"Then let's hope it stays that way." Kari said, "How about you take the day off, let's catch up over supper in town."
"Sounds nice to all of us." Matthew chuckled, "Lass would love talking with you both."
