Description
We often see old buildings as visions of the past. But when you pause to think about the process of life and history, they also represent where everything goes. So they remind us of the future of most man made things.Related content

the lightening rods are holding up well... love this exposure, Wayne.

some one else commented on them too, suggesting they could be new. But I don't know anything about that, and I have not seen a lightning rod ever on a new home. I did not think they even used them any more.

they do seem rather straight compared to the rest and actually maybe a bit large for the structure.
:shrugs:
maybe someone had them and wanted to protect it. thinking one strike and it's flaming up.

Ii don't know. Maybe if I am out there that way again and bump into the owner I will remember to ask. I would also like oto know when the house was built and even if it was one of these kit houses. I found another Eaton house on my trip last weekend, but I was unable to get permission to photograph it.

down here in our Prairies it was the Sears and Roebuck kit homes. looking it seems much like the Eatons. they would come in by train and soon out and up. I used to hunt them all the time... need to keep watching for them. so many have gone down the last 20 years.

I am pretty sure Sears made homes here as well (We had Sears not Sears and Roebuck), but the common one in this areas seems to have been Eatons. The Hudson's Bay company may have also offered this service. It is not an area where I have done any extensive research yet, but I seem to be running into these home more often of late.... hmmmm.... makes me wonder why.

so you can chronicle them before they're gone, of course.
I first noticed them after meeting someone living in one. the idea of a kit house seemed strange and cool to me.

it certainly is an idea that is long past... now we just build them and move them. Still kit homes I suppose, but different.. not as cool.

I suppose the mobile home is the modern equivalent but so lacking the same charm. it just seemed crazy to me a complete home would come in a box car.

that concept kind of blows my cookies too. In addition, eatons homes apparently did not include pre-cut limber. But still... a house in a BOXcar????

I know, I did not have time to look because I was teaching... and then recuperating from teaching... and then getting ready for a presentation tomorrow. I will look a bit more perhaps later in the week... then again.... it might be next week.
While I have you... I am going away again for a week at the end of June around the 24-30th or there about. I will check in with the group when I get back.

lol... yes I suppose it was lived in when TV was around. The yard itself was used until just recently, the owners lived in a trailer.

The house is small by today's standards, but it is on a very nice piece of land. The yard could have looked very nice

Sad but true. When I go back to Montana I see all the old structures on farms that are just left and its pretty sad to see.
This is a great picture.
