Description This is, in my opinion, my best drawing.

This drawing was done in Prismacolor. In fact, it was my first drawing in Prismacolor. It won a Gold Key at the Western Kansas Scholatic Art Show, and was considered for the American Vision award. Drawn from a reference photo. freshman year, age 14.

Comments really appreciated!

Gah it looks like a photo! If I could draw half as well as yo do I would not have I-put-sweat-blood-and-tears-into-drawings-that-only-get-a-handful-of-faves-and-comments syndrome

tell ya a secret; it is never about how good the work is. Beautiful, labor intensive work can get shit for notes, where 20 minute doodles on MS paint can get 500. It's about exposure, popularity, and luck. I post this same picture on TUmblr, I get maybe 2 likes. I consistantly get beans on Tumblr. Even here, it takes ages for some of my best pieces to accumulate any attention, and even then, I have wonderful peices that have maybe 2 comments. I was very lucky someone gave me a DD on this; before that, it had 4 favs and 1 comment.

And, of course, a popular artist will only get more popular. the same piece done by a popular artist will get 10x the notes that a not popular artist would get, and it's not fair. It freaing hurts to put 40 hours into a peice, see a SAI sketch done all with fill tool, blur, and dodge/burn get hundreds of notes, and I get nothing.

And the worst part is, people will just get in your face and say, do it for yourself, you shouldn't care about notes

But we do, and thats ok. Its good to know that people appreciate what we do, and a little attention makes EVERYONE feel good.

I'm sorry your work doesn't get a lot of attention; i know it hurts, and it sucks. My adive is to post a lot in the thumbnail forum, comment a lot on other peoples works, try to circulate yourself out there.Β

I've noticed that...my most popular deviation I made in 5 minutes and in its heyday got so many faves and comments I couldn keep up with them all. Submitting to groups does help, but putting sweat, blood, tears, and sacrificing sleep for a drawing, especially a tribute drawing (I've been doing lots of tributes because so many of my favorite creators and writers and actors have dropping like flies) it just adds insult to injury. I know I should do art for myself, and I do, but the thing is is that I post work here because I WANT feedback. I've been working on improving my drawing, but i just seem to be going round in circles, but I guess working to improve is a start.

Wow! This is very nicely executed! I love all of the detail you have, and your pencil lines are so smooth and well-blended. The eye looks very smokey. Lovely.

I'm very glad DA pulled up your image. I've been looking for a lot of diverse images using prismas. I am going into education andΒ  working in a practicum setting right now with jr. high students. We are going to be starting our color section, and we are starting them off with prismas. Could I have your permission to use this image in a powerpoint presentation?

I believe you allowed to show any debutants deviant's work as long as you credit them. I don't believe she'll answer you soon, so if you're iffy and I'm not late on your comment, I would include a link to the deviation in your presentation and pull the site up! ^^

One word...."Exceptional"....this really is a piece to be proud of.

How long did it take to complete and what size did you draw it?

Prismacolor pencils are in my opinion the best colour pencils on the market...you have definitely made good use of them here...

OH i definately agree. I don't like working with anything else!

Um...I think this one is 12 by 19 or thereabouts, and took me about...I don't quite remember...20 hours?

Supergeo1 In reply to Wayside-divide [2013-05-13 06:19:14 +0000 UTC]

Well worth the effort...love it!

I literally just finished my latest project....it is a copy of a painting by Keith Parkinson called "Lord Soth's Charge", the original is an acrylic and oil painting...i used my trusty old prismacolors...

I originally traced the scene on a light table, then have filled it all in from scratch...it has taken me 46hrs in total.
