Description
I know, pregnancy stages was requested first, but when I started, I thought hair would be easy and I could get it out of the way. Of course, things had to goof up. I'd orginally done this page in a more realistic style in an attempt at Helpful and found it Yuck. Thus, you're stuck with my exaggerated cartoonish hair because we are HIDI. We are less about teaching and more about yelling "Variety!"This, of course, doesn't cover every hairstyle ever. It is a tiny sample for sampling purposes.
Yes, it bugs me endlessly that I couldn't get more hairstyle variety into OV - working from helmet shapes while trying to avoid gravity-defying magic anime hair for the spikey bits hobbled me somewhat. I futzed where I could ( f'rinstance, Dinobot's hair is longer than it ought to be and he's got that loose strand forever hanging down his face solely to differenciate him from Megatron those times Dinobot has his hair down. And then Terrorsaur is similar, it's just really long. Luckily, they've got rather different faces and bodies to make up for it. ) No curling irons or hairspray in Prehistoric Uganda!
It's hair. Of course it's mostly Terrorsaur and Waspinator doing it.

Quick question:
How the heck do you draw that really frizzy curly hair you get on people who have those tight curls and grow them out longer?
Like that idiot Carrot-Top or whatever the hell the tard's name is.

Y'know, Terrorsaur looks kinda like David Bowie in some of those shots.

Next he will don ludicrously tight trousers and move to the Labyrinth.

Waspinator with pigtails puts me in mind of Harley Quinn. Possibly it's just how the pigtails are spaced. Also, I surprisingly like haircuts #4 and #7 on Terrorsaur. Which is weird because I'm used to him having such LONG hair.
Also, there may be no curling irons or hairspray in prehistoric Uganda, but there is a bored Waspinator-- and hair grows out.
More highlights for me: Wet Preds (always fun), people enjoying themselves (well, I spend so much of the STORIES wanting to give everyone hugs and/or pie that it's nice to see them having fun, and dang if Terrorsaur doesn't look positively blissed out with Waspinator's fingers in his hair), and Tarantulas once again looking like she hasn't realized that one's aft is generally for one's own personal use.
*considers going on about Hair-in-Art pet peeves* *decides against it cos none of said pet peeves made it into the HIDI*
Here's a 'fun' one, though. Men often have thicker (and if they let it grow out, longer) hair than women with similar genetics. They also tend toward-- injustice of injustices!-- longer, thicker eyelashes, despite the fact that pronounced eyelashes are a general cartoon-art shorthand for 'female' (see Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck). This is testosterone's fault, and is not an ART pet peeve so much as a REALITY pet peeve. Stupid hormones.

I rather like #4 as well. I will have to use it on someone someday ( probably not OV, but in general. ) I attempt short hair sometimes and it looks good on real people, I just find it's not as fun to draw as medium to long hair.
Hair doesn't grow nearly fast enough to keep up with bored wasps. And if Scorponok is wise, he will never untie his braid with her around.
( Next chapter is lighter! Promise! Or at least there's no new corpses and nobody gets exploded. )
*Is interested anyway! ^_^*
That makes me have odd thoughts that I can't quite articulate this late at night about attraction and secondary sexual characteristics and humans not knowing what the heck they want.

Terrcut #4 actually looks a little like the first interim-haircut I had on, um, my work-in-progress OV Terrorsaur Sim. I decided it would be easier to start with hair and faces than with outfits, although I DID have a go at doing Blackarachnia's choker. (Semi-related: oooh, lovely profile shots of Waspinator! Must go adjust nose.)
... She's pretty much stuck with Terrorsaur's hair, isn't she? Unless the two of them somehow manage to start a fashion. Most everyone else with colorful or long hair doesn't exactly have the patience to sit there and let her play with it just to keep her out of trouble.
(I love OV just the way it is, honest! My fangirling instincts have just shifted over the last few years from 'fix it with OFCs-- pretty, pretty OFCs' to 'fix it with comfort food and positive reinforcement.' I swear it's a maternal instinct thing. Although "no new corpses and nobody gets exploded" sounds like a refreshing change of pace. Burns, heatstroke, existential dilemmas, dysentery, crocodiles, corpses, explosions...)
Well, hey, if you're interested.
First pet peeve is kind of an 'art imitates life' thing. Hair doesn't keep growing until you hit Rapunzel proportions; it grows to a certain length and then STOPS. (And then falls out.) Usually that length is somewhere between the lower back and the middle of the hips, unless your genetics include the Inconveniently Long Hair gene. (This message brought to you by Hat's childhood and teenage years being full of people going "You never cut your hair? It'll be down to your knees soon!")
Second... well, I can roll two into one here. Hair is thicker at the roots than at the tips, which causes braids to be narrower at the end than at the base. Each hair grows to about the same length before falling out, but the head they're growing on is round like an egg so it doesn't all HANG at the same length. The closer you get to the tips of the hair, the narrower a braid is going to be. (Loose hair falls in sort of a soft point. You know this, you do it well on Terrorsaur.) If you turn someone with uncut hair upside down, the tips of their hair will follow the shape of their skull.
Pretty much any other Hair In Art pet peeve I have relates to period fiction, and things like modern authors assuming you can brush ringlets and still have ringlets afterward. (And then I get onto the rant where nobody ever unlaced a Victorian corset all the way just to take it off, but that is a whole other thing.)
I admit, I wonder how 'long eyelashes' got started as a feminized detail if it naturally occurs more often in menfolk. I'd have to research the history of mascara and false eyelashes, I guess. Course, if it's artistic shorthand that dates from the 20s, when animation got going, it could just be that 'makeup' was an easy way to show 'this duck is a woman,' since women were suddenly being much more open about the facepaint.

I start with general build and skin colour, then do faces, starting with the nose. Noses are Important! ^_^ ( Well, wrestlegame, not Sims, but same idea. Terrorsar ended up with hair more like #2, but there were no ponytails that suited him. )
At least his hair seems to be enough. It's long, it's brightly-coloured, and he lets her mess with it.
( Pretty, pretty OFCs bearing comfort food! Well, Quickstrike would be happy. )
Tell me about it. I haven't cut my hair in six years and it doesn't even reach halfway down my back. I've wanted long hair since I was a grub, alas my genetics refuse me.
At least on that one, it can be claimed the person deliberately cut their hair straight across.
What, people never had Barbie dolls? I used to do fakey perms on mine by doing their hair in tight little braids and leaving it for a week. It could be untied fine, but run a brush through it with any vigour and it straightens again. Maybe they're mistaking a perm for natural curl, which is harder to straighten.
No idea. People are odd and fashion odder.

Tarantulas' nonchalant "I'm sorry, I didn't realize your aft is for your own personal use" face is awesome XD Or maybe, given Waspinator's expression, she just violated her exlusive claim on Terror-bot's Shiny Hair.
Heheheheheh @ Combover Santa and Really Huge Fart...
Hopefully Terrorsaur's using that hairstyle software thingy to try out different styles instead of actually having cut his hair. Waspinator would be devastated.

Lovely hair-style collection ^^
Just so you know, wet hair gets long because the main hair protein loses it's 4th spacial structure. When the hair dries out, it restores itself back together. The process is called denaturation and its reverse prossess - renaturation.
Cool,huh?
P.S.: Im not sure if those are the scientific terms in English . People learn something new everyday.

Terrorsaur modeling hair makes more sense than anything else I've seen today. (He looks pitiful with it short. Or maybe miserable. I don't know.) And I LOVE Waspinator flipping her hair back. She seems puzzled by the 'really huge fart' below, though.

And Waspy says only she's allowed to touch Terrorsaur's hair!
