Description
February 2005.temperature -42c
A golden sunrise lights the morning mist on Lake Superior near Thunder Bay, Ontario. The shore seen here is a temporary one... a kilometer from land where the thick ice had piled up on a rocky shoal. It was a very cold and surreal hike that morning.

It looks like the ripples were frozen...even though that's not necessarily true...that's just how it appears.
Cool shot.

-42? What posessed you to go out in that? I live in the tropics - the girls I work with break out their jumpers anytime the temperature falls below 25.

That's another great photograph, man! I really don't know how you find the time to take such fantastic pictures. I'm not given to hyperbole, but you really do have a rare talent.
The scene reminds me of when I used to work in the forest industry in Finland, many years ago. I never had -42C to contend with, but I did have many days at -30C or so, working on the shore loading up rail wagons with timber, with the frozen sea right next to me. As you know, tarps and ropes ain't v flexible at -30C! Anyway, it looked a lot like this.
As we say in the UK: "Top one!"

thanks my friend
about the time to shoot... I did this photo 3 1/2 years ago
...but I do a lot of cold-weather hiking because I only work seasonally. For 4 months of the year my photography is an everyday indulgence for me.
Us Canadians have a lot in common with Finlanders in terms of climate and topography for sure!

I can believe that!
The coldest weather that i have been in was probably just over -30C and that already is so damn cold. But unfortunately two last winters in here finland have been quite warm.. Im hoping it will get really cold this winter
