Description
Due to the dynamic, multi directional nature of space combat traditional means of accurately displaying vessels and formation in relation to each other is difficult on a flatscreen or small holographic display. A highy details 360x360 degree Holographic display surrounding the officer in charge of a formation is highly effective. The officer can see the deployment of forces as they would be seen if he were standing in open space directly above the command center of his flagship.course peed, and status of various vessels and formations can be rapidly accessed by by manipulating graphic icons, which can be selected by a simple hand gesture, or verbal command.
A highly automated AI assisted communications network allows the commander to relay verbal or data commands to any ship on his display by simply selecting the appropriate icon and issuing commends. In addition the system can filter and prioritize status updates, and direct communications from other vessels, and officers without overloading the commander with a swarm of overlapping communications.
The platform and guard rails of the pad, have integrated gravitics that generate a cancelling force to any sudden changes acceleration forces, ship orientation of sudden violent motions caused by impacts, or evasive maneuvers. this allow the commander to safely remain standing unless the system is over powered by acceleration forces or become inoperable.

yeah, and it occurred to me later that you could use something like this for entertainment as well, invert the gravity so you're are basically flying through a virtual landscape.

I figured if you have enough tech to hurl a spaceship across the galaxy at multiple times the speed of light, a commander deserved something more advanced than a plotting table.
Besides the mental image of arriving on the bridge to meet the admiral and he's standing there. at the center of well-managed chaos, bathed in holographic light directing the action with a wave of his hand not moving an inch as the ship gets hammered is more interesting.
Something like this...
Stepping onto the Flag bridge was stepping into Chaos, dozens of voice filled with stress, the sound of status alerts, the rumble of the ships engines, and intermittent dimming of the lights as the powerful batteries of the ship unleashed death was enough to make the junior officer pause and try to make sense of the scene.
Standing at the center of the controlled chaos The admiral was bathed in the pale glow of his holographic command pad, he stood confidently directing the engagement with a wave of his hand and quick, clipped commands spoken with absolute confidence. Every action on the flag bridge serving to execute the orders of the man at its center.
The ship lurched, a combination of rapid maneuvers, the impact of a salvo of enemy torpedoes on its hull and the firing of the main batteries caused the acceleration compensators to flicker staggering everyone. Except the Admiral who stood like a god of war unmoved by the forces affecting lesser men.

If someone has direct command of a formation of warships, GTFO is not jus a suggestion
