Description
A quick picture of Maria Elizabeth Shelley, AMAZON's ace pilot, and secret FMP infiltrator. She is pictured here with Honey, a NITE Bear assigned to the uncover agent to serve as a spy master and handler.
A little about Honey: This particular bear is actually Shelley's own, which she owned since her childhood some ninety-odd years ago. (Long before FMP initiated the NITE Bear program.)
During her declining years, before being rejuvenated by FMP technology, she became very attached to the toy, as a fond reminder of happier days. The nurses who cared for her at the time often heard her talking to the stuffed animal, referring to it as her only friend.
In addition to returning her lost youth and vitality, FMP saw fit to retrofit the old teddy bear as a NITE Bear, allowing her "only friend" to return her devotion.
Though no longer suffering from senility, the rejuvenated Shelley still harbors deep affection for her fuzzy, stuffed lifelong friend. To Shelley, selling out AMAZON is a small price to pay for having life breathed into her comapnion.
Since anyone who knows of the true nature of a NITE Bear is conveniently tucked away on FMP, Shelley has become progressively more open about having Honey around. She's even taken to bringing him along on missions, as indicated in the above picture.
Though the sight of a woman climbing into an idling jet with a stuffed animal strapped to her chest is unusual to say the least, AMAZON personnel dismiss it as the idiosyncrasy of an ace fighter pilot, which thanks to Honey's hacking into, and altering her gun camera footage, everyone believes Shelley is.

this makes me think of a "star wars" novel, part of the "x-wing" series, where someone had an Ewok doll attached to his chest, to make the enemy think an Ewok was flying the fighter! (this was partly because a practical joker had earlier tampered with his radio to make him SOUND like an Ewok!)

Yea, actually I saw a woman carrying a baby in a rig like this and made a sketch. Unusual, I know, but you take your inspirations where you can get them.

The bear is a cute touch to this piece. But, I really love that Maria is in a full pilot suit, and it's intricately detailed. Keep up the great work.

I am, as always, blown away. Shelley is such a dvious character, and everyone loves the bad girls. Good guys are good, but bad guys - bad guys can just be so much more interesting at times.
Besides... bad guys don't get tied up and captured -nearly- enough.
Do you think that the Marshall knows about Honey?

No, NITE Bears were instituted some time after her escape. Although it is inevitable that the AMAZON's will one day discover their true nature.

Ah, clever. Right; now I remember. The Marshall and the rest of the AMAZON pilots can only marvel at Shelley's strange companion. Well, unless Amazon mounts an appropriate resistance I am certain they will be acquiring stuffed copilots of their own. (Of a sort. The pilots do a lot more squirming and the NITE Bears do a lot more piloting.)

Wes plays a prank on Wedge were he rigs his radio up to sound like an Ewok during an undercover mission. Later Wedge has to wear a stuffed Ewok during a mission in order to fool the enemy pilots.

From X-Wing: Wraith Squadron. I like the entire x-wing series, good reading. The "yub-yub, commander" joke actually fit in to two books. The first with the radio prank, and a follow up in the next Wraith book. I won't spoil it, because it's much better read in context.

Wow, I'm surprised they DON'T know more about the Nite bears... but then again I can see the reasoning there. Gotta say tho, Shelley seems to be flaunting it now, just rubbing things in the face of Amazon in a sort of superiority complex. Makes me wonder how she'll adapt to being brought back into the "fold", as it were, on the FMP.

I've been thinking about that. I could see it, once she's back and maidified, at least part of her would miss the high flying adventures of her time behind AMAZON lines.
I'm thinking she would take solace in the fact that she would be Honey's personal pet. It may be a holdover from Shelley's days of senility, but there actually is a romantic component to her relationship with Honey, and the pair flirt strongly over the electrotelepathic link they share.
I suppose it would be fun to complicate things a little by having her catch the optics of a ranking Robolord that would then take her for itself. After all, such a prize as the beautiful red head, is much to grand for the likes of a mere NITE Bear.
Once separated from her companion, the joys of maidification may lose some of their luster.
For Honey, being sent back into the field to wait for another girl to grow into maidifiable womanhood, while another machine enjoys Shelley's charms may impede the bear's loyalty.
And the AMAZON's will find out about NITE Bears eventually.

Just so long as Tasha gets her "minder" bear, I'm happy.
As for Shelley and Honey, that is an interesting situation. Would they go rogue for each other if forced apart? Would Nomad be forced to admit that perhaps some of his machines are getting a little "too human" with their possessiveness of certain femmes?
Heh, the sudden thought of Shelley and Honey being a sort of "Rogue Agent" for the FMP after Amazon, flying the space-ways and just maidfying various girls unlucky enough to cross paths with them, leaving a trail of wriggling girls in their wake for the FMP forces to take in even as they try to catch her...

Sure. The picture you did of her being led by said may may well be my favorite of yours.
I doubt Nomad would be prepared to admit anything beyond its rigid preconceptions. It would likely make its head explode--again.
As for Shelley and Honey, I could toally see them as a Bonnie and Clyde team. Or, at least, a criminal version of Jessica and Roger.

(one can always hope for more of that duo... would the bear have a name, I imagine Tasha couldn't call it anything more then "MnmmpH!")
And yes, I do imagien Nomad would have some... difficulty with what might happen as his underlings got more "possessive" of certain maids, and even some rivalries form over them.
And yeah, a sort of kinky Bonnie & Clyde seems a perfect mix... even if Bonnie is being lead around on a leash.

The cat helmet makes me think of Celty Sturluson from Durarara. Of course, the FMP would have real trouble with her because she's a supernatural being who HAS NO HEAD so she can't be chipped. On the other hand, she's also scared silly of UFO's.

I have to admit, even though this is in general a reasonably, technologically accurate G-suit of the type we'd see nowadays, the sleek black and the orange highlights -- and the no doubt taut and trim tailoring AMAZON's ace pilot had done for her personal suit -- make it look really slinky and, well, frankly... RAR! If AMAZON has recruitment posters or 'show the flag' promos, I can certainly see Shelley being at the forefront of that. It might even be something she enjoys: The rich adulation for her from other people that's been missing since her time as a starlet. Hmm.. insofar as she has any weaknesses, might that be one of them if not the only one? Can she get that adulation and adoration from the robots of the FMP, or the maidified captives?
I have to admit, too, that bear is frickin' adorable. And with her story, and her skills, I'd be disinclined to tell her no, she can't bring the stuffed animal with her. And the ears, they fit so ... *blinks* *looks at ears on bear's suit* *looks at ears on Shelley's suit* ... Hee! ^_^ I know it's not the actual design for the CAT Suit -- those are altogether more formidable suits of armour -- but, still... Hee!! ^_^

we-r-nomad In reply to Caraig [2011-07-05 03:24:37 +0000 UTC]
Well she does get adulation from the robots, who initially sought her out after viewing her cliff hanger/damsel in distress movies from early in her film career. And years of doing film serials in which she is trussed up every episode has given her an active taste for FMP's unique working environment.
Initially I was considering making the CAT Suits a modular garment with elements that would be worn by every AMAZON. There would be a basic suit, upon which various mission specific elements could be attached. The basic suit would have a feline helmet that would be the common thread among all variations.
I designed the feline helmet, and used it in several drawings with the fighter pilots, but when it came time to design the powered armor suits, I found myself liking how they looked without the helmet, so I made the "cat" helmet exclusively pilot gear.
That said, it just made sense that Honey would have a matching set of bear ears on his helmet when he rides along with Shelley.
