Description
Here are the colors to the picture of Starfire from the animated Teen Titans getting wrapped up by a conveniant automated duct tape dispensor. (Well, most likely something several hundred times more resiliant that mere duct tape, but you get my meaning.)This picture was originally done for the Chainsman's Institute and colored I believe by ARNie00. (If I'm wrong on this, I'm hoping the real colorist will be kind enough to indentify himself and curse me for my failing memory.) Sadly, I never got around to doing a drawing of Starfire in a stylized straightjacket the way I did for Raven. Maybe later. I'm sure folks will be kind enough to remind me.
In the meantime, enjoy the colors.

It is one of my very favourite pics: sexy damsel looking suitably distressed and very lovely as she's done up, and a really great concept for how she's being tied (well taped lol).

I loved this piece at the Chainsman, and I still love it here. I'm afraid that I don't have any really indepth thoughts, I'm pretty simplistic in my thinking often times, but this type of art pulled off so well does make me want to give it a shot. Wonderful work.

The big loss in Teen Titans was in the Starfire/Blackfire rivalry. She was always capturing Star and putting her in all kinds of super-elaborate shackle rigs in the comic, and they did nothing of the sort in the cartoon.

I take what I can get. It's not like back in the 1960's and 70's where you could expect whole sequences of bound heroines squirming for telephones. I think at present, we enjoy a strict promise of none so I'm grateful for every hint.

Yeah, well, it's an essential part of the whole Genre of superheroines. Good guys fight the bad guys, and the first time, the good guys get knocked out, and they wake up in the lair wearing huge-ass shackles and stuff that "Nullify their powers" (Love to know the science behind that) or strapped into some elaborate death machine that's gonna Extract their essence/Transfer their powers/Make them confess or spill secrets/brainwash them into working for the bad guy/etc.
And in Titans, we just didn't get that. Although Justice League and JLU occasionally gave us a little sugar.
(I have to wonder though if there's some Standards and Practices rule about the number of shackles or something that makes "Glowing bands of energy" more acceptable... cuz they suck.)

It wouldn't surprise me if modern censors were more aware of the sexuality of bondage that their earlier counterparts. Why else do you see so much less of it on even mature detective show?

I think it's more related to who the writers are. But there ARE folks who are aware of the sexuality of bondage, and don't like it.
But it's kind of a weird thing. I mean, a chastity belt is a bondage device that makes sex impossible, but it's still somehow sexy....
Same goes for a latex catsuit, or mummification, or half a dozen other fetishes. I mean, if someone gets turned on by the idea of being in a straitjacket, alone, in a padded cell for days on end, there's no SEX, per se, involved, so why is it a turn on?
I can actually understand why, but a lot of people can't, and they hate things they can't understand.
(Although one of the weirdest forms that hate takes is when they try to mainstream something, which destroys its mystique and power. "Hah! I will ruin your fetish for you by doing it WRONG! And getting everyone to do it! Soon teenage girls will be wearing Cheap PVC knockoffs from Hot Topic of your fetish styles, and when they fall apart, everyone will think your fetish is yesterday's news!")

What I meant to say was, now that they're aware of the fetish, they can censor it.
That's why in 1967 every epiosde of Batman featured some zaftig maiden with a cantilevered superstucture, and a callipygian backside squirming in the corner of some garish wharehouse set while chair bound and gagged with a technicolor scarf, and today you rarely ever see a bound girl for longer that a quarter second long tease-flash on CSI Maimi.

Batman was good, although they really toned back on the bondage once they added Batgirl. That was so WRONG! They should have upped it! I mean, when it was just Batman and Robin, they got strapped to giant spinning wheels. When they got Batgirl, it was "we tied your bodies into a knot without rope or anything." Lame!
Costumes were great though. Who was your favorite Catwoman?

That is to say, the Catwoman's never did it for me. They all seemed somehow too "old" for some reason. But Batgirl WOWIEWOWWOW!
If someone put a gun to my head and made me choose a catwoman, I'd go with Lee Merriwether. While Julie Newmar had an awesome body. I never quite liked her face. But that's just me.

You can always take an example from Adam Warren, and have before and after full wrapping.... And there are other ways to express oneself, mouthes, posture....
(annoyingly, Dan Kanemitsu has changed his site yet again, so I can't point you at the example I was thinking of. I may have to scan the 'zine).

They combine elements like full enclosure, rubber fetish, and breath control. There's a kind of man-machine interface thing there too (Especially when they're hooked up to tubes and stuff). Some people get a sense of isolation from them.
At least that's my analysis.
