Description How doe's one distract FMP 'bots hell bent on recruitment, particular when said recruitment is about to take place hundreds of feet in the air?

Chaffettes, or fast inflating balloons, molded to look like maid-worthy-maidens.

The balloons aren't particularly robust, and they often burst under the pressure of a RTD mummification, but they do make the intractably programmed Recruiters look the other way long enough for a savvy AMAZON soldier to exploit the opening.

Who wouldn't like having these cute inflatable girls thrown at them? It's a neat concept with many uses I would think!

A simple image, though a good one nonetheless. The delightfully retrofuturistic hairstyles were the first thing I noticed... as well as a certain artist seeing to it that they were wearing pumps.

Eh heh. A lot of deviants seem hell-bent on getting you to put together technical manuals.

Really? Well they should say something, because that's the first I've heard of it.

And yes, I do so love heels. No barefoot fetish here.

Uh... Maybe? I don't know. I'm not the best person to ask, seeing as I don't really care that much about shoes. Heck, I only have one pair of sneakers, one pair of sandals, one pair of... uh, trail boots? I don't know what you'd call them. I have a pair of shoes that are thicker than my sneakers that I sometimes wear in the winter. And I don't even remember if I have winter boots anymore. So yeah, I've only got 3 or 4 pairs of shoes, and that's all I need.

I suppose I can get away with a kilt. All I'd need to do is paint my face blue and run around shouting, FREEEDOOOOMM!!!", and people would marvel at my manly-itud-inal-ness.

This will of course make up for my utterly wimping out on the heel thing.

I suppose it would be more accurate to say, "I love to see women wearing heels".

I very much doubt I'd cut as sleek a figure, sporting a pair of six inch Ferragamos.

EBONY-BANDERSNATCH [2009-04-19 16:58:47 +0000 UTC]

It's interesting to see how a concept that in real life would seem ridiculous can actually make a lot of sense in the right setting: I could see the chaffettes giving AMAZON a dramatic strategic opening, to the point where they would perhaps have done considerable damage to the FMP's military infrastructure/organizatition/network by the time you could rework the seekers' AI to better spot fakes. Actually, a few fake-spotting units with heat rays or whatever would rather quickly (and humorously) pop any and all balloons within range, but I digress.

we-r-nomad In reply to EBONY-BANDERSNATCH [2009-04-20 02:52:42 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I could see AMAZON equipping the Chaffettes with rudimentary jamming software to thwart the IR Seeker probes, and FMP eventually resorting to ritualistically pricking new "recruits" with pins to see if they "yelp" or pop.

Ah, the martial march of technical advancement.

vvvan [2009-04-19 14:45:21 +0000 UTC]

I assume they have some sort of mechanism that heats the air as they inflate (since FMP robocruiters can see into the IR).

"Chaffettes". Does that mean British AMAZONs refer to them as "Wendys"? ...get it? "Chaff" / "Window"; "Chaffettes"/ "Wendys"? Never mind.

I agree with Suichi that a few seams would add some visual cues to them being decoys. but that said, it's a HYSTERICAL take off Military "Chaff" used to decoy missles... Very clever.

Of course that turns over in my mind that what if, as revenge, Nomad turned a few girls into mirror images of them, as REAL girls....

Just a weird random "Transformation" idea. After his bots are fooled enough by Chafettes, and annoyed since they do LOOK good, a few captives he alters to look like the faux chafettes. Not as in turning them into balloons or anything (Tho that fetish is out there somewhere), but literally making them living embodiments of how the chafettes look as "revenge".

Just a purely random oddball thought.

I don't know if you saw my idea on the matter, but I assumed you meant that FMP would fully reverse the whole decoy maneuver by staking these living Chaffettes out where the could be seen by AMAZON patrols as bait for pernicious booby traps, like Band Mines.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TCPolecat7 In reply to we-r-nomad [2009-04-20 10:24:51 +0000 UTC]

Close actually. I was thinking Nomad would get tired of his collectors getting "suckered" by the Chafettes, so take some random girls, make them look like them (Still flesh & blood and alla that) and once he has a dozen or so, parade them around to freak out the Amazon types... of course using them as booby traps is a good idea too.

I think Tasha was suggesting that as a thinly veiled attempt at computer generated irony, that Nomad truss up a few of the Chaffette using Swan pilots *as* Chaffettes. (instead of the usual Maids)

Perhaps display them on the battlefield as a clear message that he's not amused by AMAZON antics?

we-r-nomad In reply to SuichiTanaka [2009-04-19 15:19:51 +0000 UTC]

What an idea.

So the recruitment squad would leave a captured AMAZON in a red wig, and a pink bikini; gagged and tied to a stake, for a patrol to find.

When they approach: whup, whup, whup! They trigger Band Mines and get all trussed up themselves.

It has to be said. What a booby trap!

SuichiTanaka In reply to we-r-nomad [2009-04-20 05:50:02 +0000 UTC]

Hoho! So using sniper tactics to increase your success rate eh? Leave one out for the others to see and when they rush to help, you pick them off in a careful ambush.

I give it you to my good probe, that is an evil and wholly wonderful tactic.

You know, that makes me think that there's further use of Chaffenated damsels as bait. Why not have something like an angler fish? Where a larger piece of machinery uses a captured AMAZON POW to lure in rescuers. When they get within range, the trap springs and they're all caught at once. This way it's a mobile capture tank as well as a transport. No need for consumable resources or extra robot-power to lay down mines.

Dangle a Chaffenated AMAZON out as bait, someone gets close and sluuurp! they get sucked into the vehicle and deposited in a holding tank inside. Perhaps wrapped snugly as they pass through the opening vent.

First the Angler Tank is an inspired idea, but the whole post is worthwhile for the coining of the word "Chaffenated" alone!

SuichiTanaka [2009-04-19 06:57:47 +0000 UTC]

They actually seem a little too well formed to be proper inflated decoys. Perhaps the addition of seams will help distinguish them as non-humans?

Well, I'm just thinking as an artist here. I know what they are, but I dunno if any random onlooker would. They look like shiny girls at the moment. If they had an obvious sign of artificial-ness they'd be much more identifiable as an inflatable doll.

Their skin tone has a sheen to it, though their clothing does not seem to. Makes me think they're wearing real cloth lingerie. Perhaps color the internal lineart of the bra and panties to make it appear like it was printed on?

we-r-nomad In reply to SuichiTanaka [2009-04-19 12:55:39 +0000 UTC]

Interesting.

I'm curious to hear your comments on the follow-up piece.

I primarily posted this one because A.) I didn't want the art to go to waste, and B.) I didn't want folks thinking Swans ejected random redheads to a freefalling doom. (although perhaps your suggetsions here would prevent that anyway.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SuichiTanaka In reply to we-r-nomad [2009-04-19 13:06:16 +0000 UTC]

Give me some of those redheads anyday. If the FMP doesn't want them, I'll take them. :3

I like the postings here about FMP and AMAZON military hardware. Any plans on putting out that possible tech manual/portfolio about it?

One of my favorite things about your creations, is theorizing about all the wonderful logical ramifications they'd have on the battlefield. First it's crude balloons with printed images, then it's quick self-inflating swappable Chaffette packs (brunette anyone?), then it's internal heating to counter infra-red scanning, then it's false life sign transmitters...

Each step in the process forces an update on the other side. Normally in war this results in sorrowful casualties, but here we get to enjoy all of the positives with only some (also enjoyable) 'negatives.' If you can call hot babes in maid outfits and heavy machinery 'negatives.'
