Thanks Moe for your wonderful comment! It was the very first time for me I visited Delft!!! I was so lucky to be there with all those lights!
Did you go to Delft with the class trip, or to another town? Probably Amsterdam!
All the old city's have a city centre from the middle ages. I love them!

haha no, we were sailing on the Ijsselmeer so there is hardly a chance of going to Delft but there have been some cities which looked similar! It's about the architecture and the channels I think. We didnt go to Amsteradam either although we could have done it.

Sailing on the IJsselmeer! I never did that! There indeed are some wonderful old city's around the IJsselmeer! Have you been in Enkhuizen? My parents lived in a small village next to Enkhuizen and my father worked in Enkhuizen for about 20 years, after we left the house.

sailing on the Ijsselmeer is indeed a lush experience and I enjoyed my time there a lot. After all we were the most chaotic class but also the one with the strongest feeling of being one group. And that was proven whilst we sailed. In addition you got a really nice tan, too We have been in the cities around the Ijsselmeer, and yes, we have been to Enkhuizen. I think it was there that we, that is Timo ,a friend of mine, my ex-maths-teacher and my ex-biology-teacher, and of course me, sat around a table at a pub discussing how we could manage to get toilet-paper aboard for saturday night and the whole of sunday. Didn't have any left. Well, the biology-teacher suggested that Timo, who wanted to go to the toilet, could take some of the pub's toilet paper. My maths-teacher wasn't pleased at all but he came back after about 20 minutes having gone throught the men's as well as the ladies' toilets - his jumper full with paper for my class Anyway, it wasn't then that I fell in love with the NEtherlands, it was more or less my last holidays there (well, we stayed somewhere in the netherlands for about 4 days whilst travelling up to Germany again). The hotel we stayed in had some descriptions of various cycle-routes which my brother and I used intensively and never mind the weather. It wasn't only good fun but I also got to see the wonderful small villages (GOD! The red brick roads are amazing - and so are the biiiiiig cycle-paths!!!) But now I'll go to bed - I have to be cooking in 3 1/2 hours already

That's what I like about Holland too, the red brick roads and the cycle-paths! Those paths really make people use their bikes instead of their cars!
In the town where I live we have red cycle paths all over the place. Most of the time with water next to them, so there is alot to be seen, especially in summer.
What do you have to cook so early in the morning?
How's life living with your parents again. After a six months stay in England I found it very hard to get used to family life again. All those rules. I'd been out alot in England, but my parents never alowed me to go out, even when I was in my twenties.
What will you be doing on New Years Eve (our Oudejaarsdag)?
We've got a wonderful and quiet day and at about 8 my son and my daughter with her boyfriend (for 7 months now, he's coming from the north of our country) will come here for celebrating the new year together.
Did I tell you I bought myself a tele lens? It's the latest Canon 70-300 mm lens, and I realy love the quality of it.
Last week I bought a new Gitzo tripod, because the one I had wasn't stable enough for the rather heavy camera and lens. And a remote shutter lead.
I've got 2 lenses and a polarizing filter on my wish list.

I think I've fallen in love with this shot. It's so... joyful and lively and simple and happy. We almost don't have any lights in Paris this year A wonderful capture.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! You made my day!!!
Hardly any lights in Paris?? And it's known all over the world as the city of lights!!!?? Why is it that there are not so many lights?? Lots of people, also coming from outside Paris will be very disappointed!
I've been driving through Paris alot, going to the south of France. Once we stopped in Paris to drop my sister-in-law and her boyfriend in a hotel close to the Tour Eiffel. I've always wanted to go to Paris to see all those famous places and museums. But my husband doesn't like to walk through big cities. Maybe I will go there with one of my friends who would love to go to Paris too.

Well of course the Champs Elysees are all lit up, for tourists. But all the other streets, even most of the big avenues and boulevards are not decorated at all, I think they want to preserve energy ? Sad, though. But the Eiffel Tower shimmers every hour during ten minutes through the dark sky : enchanting.

webworm In reply to greenandyellow [2006-12-22 23:37:05 +0000 UTC]

I would love to see the lights in Paris, and especially the ones of the Tour Eiffel!!
Preservation of energy must indeed be the reason. Do you live in the centre of Paris?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

greenandyellow In reply to webworm [2006-12-22 23:45:35 +0000 UTC]

Not exactly the center. More towards the north and the east

webworm In reply to greenandyellow [2006-12-23 00:31:39 +0000 UTC]

Must be closer to the Route Peripherique!!!

greenandyellow In reply to webworm [2006-12-23 00:55:15 +0000 UTC]

Yup, about halfway between the pΓ©riphΓ©rique and the center actually

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

webworm In reply to greenandyellow [2006-12-23 00:59:07 +0000 UTC]

So you can see the Tour Eiffel from there (if you're high enough).

I can if I walk up the street, absolutely. But not from my apartment, it's not oriented right

That is so beautiful! My first thought was that it reminded me of an old master's painting. How appropriate once I read your explanation. I guess it is the golden colors and lighting that gave me this impression. Is that a waterway running down the center, or just water on surface of the street?
