Description Current Version: 2.0.1
It would be good if you linked back here if you use this in anything or repost it somewhere, so people can find the source. Feel free to bring up any troubles you might have with this here and I'll likely be able to help you fix it.

Downloads have been moved below because DA no longer allows the uploading of archives containing executable files.

About Version 2.0.1 (Shimeji-ee)(You seriously need to read this stuff before getting the new one.)

EE stands for "English Enhanced". To find out more about this, you should read this blog: [link]

There's a slight problem with Envy though. With Shimeji-ee, you can put different Shimeji image sets under a single directory and load them all at once or pick which ones to load of the bunch. However, they all use the same configuration files. This is the problem with Envy because I edited the config files to suit his unique actions, because he doesn't work like the original Shimeji. He required a few edits to existing actions and for new ones to be added. Because of this, Envy should not be placed in another Shimeji-ee's image directory, and another Shimeji should not be placed in the EE-Envy's directory. Keep this one isolated.

New added actions: TongueOut, ShowRedStone, PaintGraffiti, ActSmug, Think, SitAndWhistle, and Spark. "SitAndSpinHead" is now "SitAndNodOff".

I included ReadMe's in the archive files to explain most of the technical stuff with these. If I included it here, the description would be loooong(er). So if you want to know how to install and use this, you can read that or look up other shimeji.

DownloadsThese downloads lead to a 3-pack which contains the original V1.0.0 Shimeji (if you prefer it) and the new V2.0.1 Shimeji-ee in both the Calm and Mischief variations. If you only want one or two versions, just delete the folder of the unwanted one after you extract them.

.RAR archive of the 3-Pack: [link]
.ZIP version of the 3-Pack: [link]

Tips and FixesIf you use the original 1.0.0 from the .Zip version, it will not work properly unless you rename two files, due to how .Zip compression works. Go to the "conf" folder. Inside are two .xml files. They will have screwed up names. To make Envy work, you need to copy/paste the original Japanese names back into the file name.

One file is 42 kb. Rename it to 動作
The other is about 10 kb. Rename that to 行動
You don't have to change anything about the Calm or Mischief ones, and this problem is not present if you extract these from the .Rar archive.

Works on Windows 7 - 32 and 64 bit (Run the .jar file for 64 bit systems)
* Compatible with Java 6 on 64-bit Win7
* Not compatible with Java 7 unless with a fix with Quiet: [link] Not compatible with Mac unless with this fix: [link]

I believe that's an issue that's been written about in shimeji groups' blogs; apparently it's a known issue that it will sometimes be read as a virus.
It's not and it's literally just a series of images programmed to activate randomly and you could look at the code yourself since it's possible to open and edit it in notepad. But you don't have top trust my word on it if you don't wanna.

Hi, I've been trying to download the .ZIP file for Windows 8 and Windows 7. I do NOT have the latest version of Java on the Windows 7 desktop but I do on the Windows 8 desktop. Needless to say, despite all of your help, I can't even find any of the files you're talking about. I have not tried the .RAR file yet. I do not know whether my computer is 32 bit or 64 bit. Is there any advice you could give me?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to Owlsweety [2013-07-10 10:56:13 +0000 UTC]

You can find out whether your system is 32 or 64 bit by going to "computer", right clicking, and selecting "properties". It'll be listed under system type. I have no idea if this is the same for Windows 8 though because I don't have that OS on any machine right now. So I'm sorry if I can't help you get it working on that one.

Are you unable to download the actual archives or are you having trouble opening them? If you can't download them I'll have to check if there's something up with mediafire; if there is I'll just rehost them. If you can't open the archives, all Windows systems should be able to extract .zips without issue, and for .rars you can use Winrar, 7-Zip, or RAR Open Knife, among others.

What specific files are those that you can't find, btw?

Also, sorry for all the inconvenience here.

Hello!
I downloaded the 2.0.1 version, Mischief. I extracted it and tried to run both jar and exe, but they won't work no matter what. My computer system is Windows 7, by the way.
It says it is running, but there's no character (another one had this problem, too, I noticed).
I have tried multiple times to make shimejis work on my computer, but they flat out refuse. Do you have any idea of what might be wrong?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to Zhariael [2013-01-07 21:43:51 +0000 UTC]

That might be due to your system. Is it 32-bit or 64? Also, did you mean you tried each execution one-at-a-time or did you try to run the .exe and the .jar at once?

If you have a 64-bit system (which is what this problem seems to occur on), then try running just the Shimeji-ee.jar file. It's worth noting that the shimeji doesn't appear immediately all the time, for some reason. Minimising a window usually prompts it to appear for me.

If nothing happens still, the only other thing I can think of is that this might not be compatible with the version of Java you're running.

If it's to any help, my Java is Java 7 update 7.

And thank you for your quick respond, by the way!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Zhariael In reply to WeepingMoth [2013-01-08 09:29:11 +0000 UTC]

It's 64-bit. And yes, I tried them one-at-a-time and not at once, but it didn't work.

I tried doing all that, but even if I wait for half an hour, nothing happens. Not even minimising a window or 'Follow the mouse!' helps.

I have the newest Java, if I remember correctly. Up to date.

Shall I install an older version or..?

One other thing: I forgot to mention, if you go with the second option, replace the code that's already in the .bat file completely.

WeepingMoth In reply to Zhariael [2013-01-08 10:00:41 +0000 UTC]

Aye, it's a common problem amongst Win7 users; they're not compatible with Java 7. :/

There are two options for this:
You could downgrade Java slightly, for which you can find a link here: [link] As long as you don't mind downgrading it, that is.

or

1. Download Quiet: [link]
2. Place Quiet.exe into the folder that the Shimeji-ee executables are in (i.e. "Envy Shimeji-ee (Mischief)" or whatever else you may have named it)
3. Edit Shimeji-ee.bat (right click, edit should pull it up without issue)
4. Paste this into it:

start Quiet.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java" -classpath Shimeji-ee.jar -Xmx1000m com.group_finity.mascot.Main -Djava.util.logging.config.file=./conf/logging.properties
exit

5. Run the .bat file.

Hopefuly this helps. Let me know how it goes, whichever you choose!

Since it's a RAR file, do I need to get a RAR file opener to run this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to minty0219 [2012-09-29 20:40:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but just to extract the files. RAR File Open Knife is a good one.

If you look in the description, there are also Zip file links, if you can't extract RARs. I'd recommend getting the 2.0.1 version anyway.

WeepingMoth In reply to Tabbie-Katt [2012-07-03 00:27:16 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like a problem that occurs with people who have 64-bit systems. I'm assuming that with the mischief one you're clicking on the Shimeji-ee.exe with the little face icon, yes?

Make sure you exit the one you tried to open. Then, launch the program via the Shimeji-ee.jar file (with the java icon) instead. This also goes for the calm version, since this seems to be a Shimeji-ee specific problem.

What do you mean servers? Are the download links not working? Even if you can't get it off of mediafire, the original Japanese version is still available right on this site.

(Uh... crap. DA is bugging right now so I'm not sure this comment will actually register in reply to you, ContessLadyMoonlight. Also, sorry for being late with it, I hope your brother wasn't too mad at you.)

This depends on which version you are using. 1.0.0 or 2.0.1?

In 1.0.0 you have to right-click on the small Ouroborus icon on your taskbar and click the very last row of boxes. They will all go away.

In 2.0.1 you can right-click on either the taskbar icon or the shimeji themselves and click on "Bye everyone!"

(fff, DA is still bugging, but that's good.)

You're welcome. 2.0.1 might be easier to use, since it's in English, and if you find the boxes in your menus annoying. You also may want to read one of the ReadMe's I posted (one comes in the 1.0.0 you downloaded, the 2.0.1 one is separate), they address a couple of other problems you might see. :>

WeepingMoth In reply to wexb [2011-07-17 04:40:28 +0000 UTC]

That's not much to do with the shimeji itself. :V

But no, Envy is not. (Some spoilers follow, if you haven't seen the first cartoon version of FMA.)

In the first animated adaptation, he was revealed to be male. In the comic/Brotherhood he's not really either specifically. I still refer to manga/Brotherhood Envy as "he" though, as his preferred body really has more of a male structure, albeit with cartoonish anatomy, of course. That and, being a shape-shifter who prefers a male body, I think it's a safe bet that the character would identify as such as well.

NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-16 20:44:07 +0000 UTC]

Do you still have to rename the files in 2.0.1? Or is my problem different? It shows the icon at the bottom, but I don't see the Shimeji.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-16 20:55:20 +0000 UTC]

Your problem is different. Since all the code was converted to English for Shimeji-EE no renaming is required.

If you're seeing the icon but no shimeji, then you have to click on a different file. Close the current one you have open before doing this though. I'm assuming that you started it by clicking on the "Shimeji" file with the computer screen icon? Try double clicking the other Shimeji file; the one with the extension .jar and java icon.

This seems to happen with people who run 64-bit.

Can it be run from a flash drive? And yes, the computer I'm trying to run it on is an Accer AspireOne...it's tiny. Doesn't even have a disk drive.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WeepingMoth In reply to NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-16 21:54:22 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they can be run from a flash drive. All of the files required for it are contained in that folder, with no actual installation required.

Did using the executable Jar file, fix it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NejiHyuga73 In reply to WeepingMoth [2011-07-16 21:58:28 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it did. My computer can't handle more than 20 on the screen.

WeepingMoth In reply to NejiHyuga73 [2011-07-16 23:56:20 +0000 UTC]

Okay, good. :>

Yeah, it's like that sometimes. Shimeji-EE uses less memory overall than the original shimeji, but if you get a lot of them it can really add up. I hope it doesn't crash your computer or something though, in that case having the mischievous ones might be dangerous. :V
